Title: No floppy drives recognized by A2000
Post by: orb85750 on November 21, 2011, 02:24:59 AM
I have an A2000 (without a hard drive) that boots up to the insert WB1.3 disk screen, but there is no disk click with any internal or external floppy drive.  Does anyone have experience diagnosing the cause of such a problem?  Thanks.

Does your computer have a "no click" program that auto starts? I have heard of the programs but don't know much about them try these links

does it boot with a disk in? you didn't say. I have seen external drives with no click options.. I think there were internal boards for no click options.  look between the drive and the cable for such a board. Maybe if you have a spare drive swap it out and see if the drive is good if it doesn't boot.

The no-click programs are not relevant --- there is no hard drive, and it does not boot with any floppy drive so far.  The insert WB1.3 screen comes up and that's it.  No floppy activity whatsoever.  I have not tried new cables.

swap the cia chips and see. they help control the disk drive.
could also check for power to the drive.

Yeah, I had this. The power cable was very short on my a1500 & just reassembling it caused one of the ends to pop out.

How many internal floppy drives do you have?  They are jumpered (df0: or df1: selection in the back) for a particular position on the ribbon cable.  Have you moved anything?

Check out this troubleshooting guide: http://home.arcor.de/kickstart/TKA/Tutorials/troubleshooter/trouble1.html
Looks like Paula and Gary can be the problem. Gary is a floppy controller too, so that could be it.
I used that guide to troubleshoot my problems with my video out in my A2000. My colors were off, turns out that my Hybrid is broken in half.

I think the position of drive on cable is irrelevant. The wires in floppy cable are 'Amiga_swapped' just for LED.
