A year or so ago I bought "On the Edge: the Spectacular rise and fall of Commodore". Good book...now it just sits there. So that got me thinking...how about I send it to someone to read it? You write your name (print...not sign), city/state/country on the inside flap or back inside page if it ever got full...then send to someone else. I'd like to have the book back after its all signed, hopefully all over the world so we can see how far its travelled. This is based on trust...so I hope nobody keeps it or something.
What do you'all think?

It's definitely an interesting experiment! Would be really cool to see how far it goes - though it is the kind of book that someone might get and leave on their shelf for six months before reading it.
At the end of the day, it's not like it's an expensive and rare accelerator board or anything - there's really not much to lose, and the possibility of having a really interesting item in a year or two!
-
can I borrow it mate? I asked on here before but nobody world lend me one.
-
I'd like to read it as well. :)

Yup. Pm your mailing address.

Great idea, I'm interested.

What would be good (though not very likely) would to have it so the book change overs have to be done in person.
When the book changes hands a photo needs to be taken and then posted to a website.
That way we get :
1- To see who has the book
2- To see the condition of the book at each point (we can see who damages it)
3- rid of the possibility of it being lost in the post.
4- To know where to find the book if it stops getting passed about.

Cool idea. That is a book I have been meaning to read/purchase as well. Since we are on the topic of Amiga/Commodore books - can anyone comment on the book, "Freax" ? It is a book regarding the 'scene' community.

I am thinking of asking the wife to grab it for me for Christmas.

PM sent woohoo!!
-
It would be better just to scan it and upload somewhere for all to enjoy.

I don't think Brian Bagnall would enjoy that.

absolutely not.
As far as the book exchange etc.. I'm hoping I get it back. Its just a book, so I would think nobody would want to read it and then keep it or throw it away.
@Tension:
You can either send it back to me when you're done or refer back to this thread and send it to the next one on the list.

I have lots of Amiga programming books and I'm not sharing them with anyone! Mwahahaha!
-
I think that is a great idea. They are great books (version 1 and version 2).
I was told by the publisher that they are releasing version 2 in ebook format if anyone is interested.
Cheers,

>I don't think Brian Bagnall would enjoy that.
Why would he care whether it is scanned+uploaded or just lent around? He loses sales either way.

While we're at it, lets ban libraries as well.

Buuuurn the Internet!!

Yes, exactly. It highlights the inconsistency of so-called "intellectual property" laws. If people having access to things without having to pay was as bad as they made out, every publisher would be out of business long ago. They can't have it both ways.

The UK government seems to be one step ahead of you and is closing them all down

nah silly, they are probably just "upgrading" them to "eLibraries" where you can borrow electronic versions for your tablet. :)
-
Is this just vapour then?
-
No its called being patient. I'm a busy man. I will send out this FREE book to READ as soon as I get a chance.
-
Thanks. For a moment there I thought the project had been 'shelved' lol.

EDIT: Btw, its going out today for sure. Gotta head on out with my kids so I'll stop by the post office.
