Which machine would run 4.1 better? That is all.. :) Looking to get the best 'bang' for my buck.

Definitely the Pegasos 2.
-
Plus I can run MorphOS and 4.1 on the Peg... hmm decisions decisions.. i want to get a modern Amiga system going for myself...

peg2

I'd pick the one with the newest hardware and support.

The PegII has the more powerful CPU - the 7447 has altivec, is 1.15 times faster per clock than the 460ex and its L2 cache is twice the size (512 kb vs. 256kb). The Sam has faster RAM though.
I would go for the PegII - support is good (if something fails bplan are still fixing the machines) and it runs MorphOS, too.

@ zylesea
Indeed the Peg2 even wins over Sam 460, and the Sam 440 (which is on topic here) is miles behind. If "bang" alone is what you want, the choice is pretty clear. The same if you look at "buck" alone. And if you're looking for "bang for the buck" combined, it's a walk over victory...

PegII has faster CPU and better bang to the buck ratio.
SAM has faster RAM , plus you can attach newer SATA HDD`s and DVDs and has official repair and support and is fast enough to run OS.
With PegII you could get faster E-UAE, Bledender etc. but not that they are unsable on SAM 440.
PegII can also run MOS.
Now its your call.
-
PegII for the fact you can run MOS and OS4 on it. It is a more versatile machine.
My SAM I like a lot due to my dislike for IDE and my love for SATA, even though it's a base model 440ep I find it very usable and peppy.

My SAM460 has 2GB DDR2 RAM, faster bus, SATA drives, SATA DVD-RW, boots from an OCZ Vertex 3 120GB and in its PCI Express slot it has an ATI Radeon 4890 with 1GB.
I have also got a SAM 440ep 666MHZ 512MB and a flex 800MHz 1GB but I'd go for the 460 if I had to buy another one.

You should definitely go for the Peg-2 Chris, if you can find one. That way you can run both OS4 and MorphOS and won't need two computers to check out all the possibilities of modern PPC Amiga systems.
The SAM460 is not a bad system, but is will cost more and it won't let you run both OS4 and MorphOS. The SAM440ep, or flex is not enough cheaper than the SAM460 to make it an attractive alternative, so if you want a new system, I would say spend the few extra bucks and get the 460, not the 440.
Of course, you could just get a really cheap (or free) G4 Mac to run MorphOS on and save your money to buy more Classic Amiga gear from me.

Peg2 is absolutely better because it is faster (http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=496#p7211).

Interestingly in the linked Hollywood benchmark the Pegasos II numbers outperform the Sam460 only if the Peg is running MorphOS. With OS 4.x it is surprising slow (not even half the speed as compared to the MorphOS values on the same machine). Seems there's something wrong with OS4.1 on the Pegasos (or w/ Hollywood & OS4 in general).
Anyway, PegII still the best choice, since it offers most options and has the most powerful cpu of all OS4 systems available today.

I have to agree on the fact that the Peg II is the best choice. It was a no brainer when I bought my two Peg II boards at the time when compared to the SAM boards.
Cheaper/faster CPU and no need to buy any more hardware to try (and now to use/enjoy) MorphOS. It may have slower HD/memory access but I prefer a faster CPU anyway and memory/HD access is enough for OS4.x/MOS needs at the moment.
Cheers,
Dragster.

Exactly ;-)
