Title: NEED CHEAP LEGOS FOR eMac Recasing.
Post by: XDelusion on November 15, 2011, 05:30:25 AM
I'm just looking to see if anyone has some Legos or Lego compatible bricks that they'd like to sell cheap. I've looked on Ebay and they seem to be quite pricey, especially when considering how many I'm going to need to re-case my recently beheaded eMac.

If ya wanna be a good samaritan, lemme know, thankx! :)

Great idea! I don't have any, but have you tried any local car boot sales / yard sales? Surely there are kids with buckets of the stuff that don't use it any more, and it should be cheap...

Go rob a day care center. :)

As a parent of a lego addict - good luck. :) Old, used buckets of bricks have never seemed to present themselves to me. Perhaps you have some relatives whos kids have grown and might have some laying around?

I think robbing a day care center is next on the list. :)

The Garage sales I went to this summer seemed totally devoid of all Legos. My mom found a small bucket of them for me, but not nearly enough to finish the project.

Go to the dollar store and get the cheap legos, they have sets that are half the price of legos and they interconnect. Are you going to build a computer with Legos? I looked for lincoln logs once to build a bird house once. just sayin, nic e idea any way good luck and check the good will store too.

Now a days I can buy stuff new cheaper than I can get things used at Goodwill it seems.

I'll have to take a road trip Friday and see if any of the Dollar Generals sell them. All the local stores are null and void.

Do you have any plans for the design of the case? Will it be a multicoloured cube, or are you going to make it into a space station or a castle or something cool? I've wanted to build a LEGO PC case for a while too, but it's definitely going to be themed.

Imagine your PC housed inside this:

Good luck with your LEGO hunt!

Afraid I have no source for cheap legos, but craigslist might be an option = few neat lego based cases at above link.

Cammy, Very enticing photo, and while I had considered doing something like that, I have to face the fact that I am running out of room, so I'm going for small and compact as possible, but I'd also like to attempt o avoid just making a box. I've got a few rough sketches, but nothing set in stone, though I do want to make sure that I can still stack Legos on the top should I want to place a few Star Wars figurines up there. ;)

As for the color... dunno yet. It's prolly going to have to be multi color though, unless I paint the pieces individually before putting it all together.

Duce: Groovy page! :)

Mission accomplished I believe. I just went to Ollie's and scored 5 bags full of 160 new MegaBlocks each  for $9.99 a bag!!! :)

Good luck on your case building. Looks like you have some awesome ideas to work off of.

Thankx, and yes I do have a lot of work ahead of me, now to just find the time to do it...

if only I'd stop agreeing to work overtime. :/

Oh and it looks like I found a kid with a HUGE Lego collection from when he was a kid. I talked him into selling them all to me for $100, which is MUCH cheaper than I would pay for the amount he has on Ebay.

I think I'll end up building two cases, one from the Mega Blocks and then later on one from normal small Legos.

WalMart had for Black Friday a box of 1500 Legos for $30.  I'm sure they're all gone, but I guess it's something to watch for.

If you're still looking, Wal-Mart has a box of 1600 Legos or like 1100 Duplos for $30.

Hi,

Don't know why anyone would want to waste a good set of legos on an eMac, but beheading an eMac sure sounds good to me.

A lego case for a computer sounds like a good idea for a Christmas present for my Grandson.  I should get to work on something like that for him before it is too late.  Any sites that have completed Lego case designs already completed with pictures?

The Grandson already is becoming proficient with an OLD Windows laptop, but I have always hoped that I could get him interested in using an Amiga some day.  I have a spare A1200 I can loan to him or give him if he develops any interest in it, but so far he does not seem to show any interest in how computers work, just what he can play on them.

I did get him set up with an email account though, so maybe he will start taking more interest in different aspects of computers in the next few years.  Kids and computers are not like they were 25 years ago.  He is only 9 right now, so maybe in a few more years he will show more interest in what makes them work.

Hi,

@amigadave

I would get him an Amiga 1200 only as a hobby computer to fool around with, you know get creative, learn programming, etc.

but,

whether we like it or not, PC's are the way of the future, they do most of our government work (now we know why the government is so inefficient) most of our business work (ever wonder why the world is going bankrupt), and most of our new gaming.

The only thing more useless than the Amiga today is the MAC line and the MAC line still has support. Ever wonder how the Amiga would be if it would get support. Maybe I should say more useless than the Atari line.

You are absolutely right. Emac is crap!!!

...but with MorphOS it shines! :)

How's your case coming? Post pictures if you can. Let's see the progression.

I will, I'm just having car issues, which results in money and transportation issues. :/

As soon as I can get over to my dad's when I have a day off, I'm going to use his table saw to cut the base which the bottom layer of bricks are going to be fastened to.

That is a very cool case.

Hey X, did you get the eMac to display on an external monitor?

Yep, details of that can be found on the morphzone.

Once the case is done, I'll be posting all the details on my page.
