Does anyone know why im getting this error? I have some brand new disks im trying to format, i have tried both hd and dd/ds disks but get the same error not all of them but some?
-
Well i just done a full format rather than a quick format and so far so good :)
-
Cam't believe how well the HD floppys work ive formatted a whole bunch of them and used tsgui to put the adf game images to disk and i am now playing some great classics :)
-
yeah, they do... for a while..
-
Really how long do they normaly last?
-
Well, I can't say how long they will last.... but, using floppies back in the day to transfer pics between a PC and my Amiga, I might have a disk fail in 2 DAYS. I have read that part of this has to do with Windows, I dk, tho...
What I can say, is the times I have gotten the 'seek error' message, it turned out to be a faulty disk... and you HAVE cleaned your drives recently, right? :)
*I cleaned my 1200T's floppy drives last night*
-
But im not planning on using them in my pc?
-
I also hope your drives are clean, always use a floppy drive cleaning kit in your Amiga to avoid read/write errors.
As for the HD floppy disks, there's no way to say how long the data will last on them, I don't know if usage or time makes it happen but after a while you're bound to get a read error on each of the disks. It has to do with HD media not being good at retaining data when formatted as DD. In any case it's not a really big deal, just re-write the ADF back to the disk and it should work again. I always write an ADF three times in a row, just to really burn it in there, not sure how effective it is but it doesn't hurt.

Thats great thanks Cammy

Great, Thanks Cammy. I am not sure about re-writing the ADF , but I had one really UN-cooperative disk where I had to write it out 3 times, before it worked... :(
