Title: Noisetracker disks update.
Post by: Jaycebot on November 01, 2011, 02:46:40 AM
Hi guys,
I am now able to transfer files using a null modem cable and Amiga explorer.
What do I need to put on a floppy disk in order for noisetracker to recognize it?
It asks for ST-16, ST-17, ST-18 and ST-19.

Thanks

Can anybody help?   How do I get noisetracker to recognize the disks?

If you've got hard disk you have to make assigns to your instruments drawer:

Assign ST-16: Work:Instruments

where "Work:Instruments" is the directory where you store instruments (samples). The Noisetracker needs just these assigns.

Make an AmigaDOS script so that these assigns are created automatically.

The original contents of those floppy disks are here: (http://aminet.net/search?name=st&path)
http://aminet.net/search?name=st&path[]=mods/inst&start=0

ok, do I have to unpack these files?  Where should I put them on the hard drive, I dont know where ST-01-ST-15 are stored.

Thanks

IMHO it would be faster to just transfer the four samples floppies it asks for into 4 floppies. The ST samples can be found on Aminet, e.g. http://aminet.net/search?query=st-16 . Remember that in order to be recognised the floppies have to be correctly labeled, i.e. "ST-16".

Ok,
Do i put the exact file from aminet.net on the floppy, or do I have to unpack it?
How do I name the floppy?  I'm new at this.

If you have a harddrive, use that instead.

I've laid out some rough instructions here, I may have made some mistakes because I'm not in front of an amiga at the moment, but this should be a good start.

Create a drawer on your harddrive, call it instruments:
Double click on your harddrive from the workbench
use right mouse button, select new drawer, enter name.
lets say the new folder is now on drive dh0: named instruments.

Download and transfer all the lha files to your amiga:
If you dont have the LHA program itself, you'll need to download that too.
save the lha files in the instruments folder for now also

Follow the instructions to install LHA:
(if i recall correctly)
Double click on your harddrive from the workbench
double click your instruments folder
right-click select show-->all files
double-click lha.run to auto-extract
leave the instruments window open, and bring the harrdive window to foreground.
right-click select show-->all files on the drive window also.
Double click the "C" folder.
Drag "LHA" from instruments drawer to C:  drawer
Close C: window

Now open a shell:
Right click on the workbench screen, select "execute command" from the top menu.
Type "newcli"
type "cd dh0:instruments"

Now extract all your lha files:
lha x st-16.lha (substitute the name of the lha file you want to extract)
Do this for all lha files.

Now make an assign to point to these files:
in the same shell, type "ed s:startup-sequence"
scroll down the file until you see the other assigns
add a new line after the other assigns that looks like this:
Assign >NIL: ST-16: Dh0:Instruments
create a new line for each assign you need
when finished press escape, then press x then hit enter

Now reboot your machine and give it a shot.

Hi,
Are these instructions for 1.3?
Also how do I install a lha unpacker?  All of the ones I found in aminet are saved in the lha format. I can't instal them because i cannot unpack them, confusing!

Yes these steps should be fine under 1.3.

The auto-extracting LHA archive is here:

Hi,
I kinda figured it out.  My noisetracker tries to load the St-16/17/18. But they arent loaded into the program.  However it doesnt ask for it in DF0 like it did before.

How do I delete or remove assigns?
also, how do i put these St files on a floppy, it asked for them in DF0 anyway.

Thanks

hi

I found out how to put the files on the floppy.  Noisetracker does recognize it, however the samples that are ST-XX are different than what are on the floppy.  so when the song looks for a certain sample on ST-XX none of them match what it is looking for....

I FIXED IT!
I found out that the ST-15/16/17/18/19 were already on the hard drive.  I just had to make assigns for them.  However they do not save when i power off.  Im assuming this happens because i cannot get the startup sequence command to work.

I could use some help!

If I recall correctly, hard drives generally aren't bootable under Kickstart 1.3.  So your boot disk should have the startup-sequence file in it with the S: assigned to the directory containing it.  Am I right?

If so, then the startup-sequence should assign all of the directories to the hard disk and transfer control over to it so that you can remove the boot disk from the floppy drive once booting is completed.  Adding a few more assigns shouldn't hurt anything on the boot floppy then.

Hi,
I dont need the Workbench 1.3 floppy to boot it.  It boots off of the hard drive.
When i type in ed s:startup-sequence.  It says unknown command ed.
If i type assign, i can see ST-00 through ST-14.
Everything works fine when i type in all of the correct assigns for ST-15 through ST-20,
When i reboot i have to type all of that in again, it wont save them.

KS1.2 was plaggued by this infamous bug. KS1.3 fixed it and allowed straight boot from harddrives.

try this :

echo "assign ST-16: WhatEverTheInstrumentPathIs DEFER " >> S:startup-sequence

This command will add an assign to the last line of the startup-sequence.

Do I have to type the quotation marks?
Echo "assign ST-16: PRO:music/Inst/St-16 DEFER " >> S:startup-sequence

Is that right?

That should be right.
