Title: A600 sound problem
Post by: dougal on October 30, 2011, 03:19:56 PM
The sound when connected to RF was fine but through the phonos it does not sound right as in the volume is low and only 1 channel is working but both phonos are working but both are outputting the same i.e no stereo which means half the sound is missing.

What could the problem be?

Phono cable is good as its the same one i use on the A1200

Probably capacitors. I don't have a schematic for a 600 but there are likely a half dozen or so in the audio circuit.

Are they easy to replace?

Yeah, that definitely sounds like capacitors, it happens to all the A600s and A1200s, same symptoms every time, crackling audio, audio only in one channel or low volume.

I can't solder so can't replace capacitors myself, but it's a job many handy Amiga guys have done themselves, if not a TV repairman could do it for you. You would be best to replace all of the capacitors at once, not just the ones that are failing at the moment.

Guys i think i effed it up :(

I was removing caps and stuff and re-soldering and it was fine except for sound. But even with a lot of caps removed it still booted.

Now it wont. When i switch it on the disk drive clicks ones, the screen goes fist black and then 3 shades of grey as normal and it just gets stuck there on a grey screen with no boot and the hard drive wont switch on.

Any ideas?

First i tried with the new caps, then when it wouldnt boot i tried removing them and it worked, so i re-soldered some of them again and then wouldnt boot. Thats when i tried removing some and tried booting without.

Perhaps some of the caps were replaced with the polarities reversed?
