Title: How do I write soundtracker disks?
Post by: Jaycebot on October 28, 2011, 02:37:50 AM
Hey guys,
I found a lot of music on my Amiga 2000 in soundtracker.
It asks for st-18 and st-19 and so on. I was able to find the files online

http://aminet.net/search?query=st-+sampledisk

Then i put that file on a floppy but my Amiga doesnt recognize it.
It just says DF0:BAD.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Archives tested ok so the problem is not there. If I were you I'd unpack these archives somewhere onto your Amigas harddrive and assign ST-18: and ST-19: there.

Floppydisks are nightmare from hell ;)

Please explain how you put the file on the floppy.

Did you do that with a PC?

use unlzx, found here:

I also unpacked samples for you:

http://koti.phnet.fi/yh14756/st19/

Yes, i used my PC to put the files on the floppy,
So do I just place these samples on the floppy and is that all i have to do?

Simple answer: Amiga doesn't support pc-disks natively, forget it

Complex answer: there are many ways of mounting pc-disks on amiga and copy the files over. If you have cd-rom in your Amiga, burn the samples on cd and assign st-18: and st-19: to point there.

Im using 1.3
I don't think cd drives work on that.
What else could I do?

Install WinUAE

I'm not sure how the WinUAE suggestion is going to help your situation.

PC's cannot write to Amiga formatted floppy disks. There is some limited support for reading PC formatted floppies on an Amiga, but I'm not sure that Workbench 1.3 can do it without extra software.

The two easiest methods are to either buy a nullmodem serial cable and transfer the files that way (http://www.amigaforever.com/ae/), or have someone write the files on their Amiga and send the disk to you.

No, the easiest way is to install Winuae and run soundtracker + st-xx assigns from a working 3.x environment.

Hey guys,

I bought a null modem cable at work today, I work at a thrift store and I happened to find one.  :)
Anyway, I have my Amiga hooked up to my pc, and I have Amiga explorer installed on the pc.  However the connection setup process never works.
It says increase buffer size or something.

I could really use some help!

Thanks!

Good Answer, Bingo!

Natively Crossdos works on all Amiga's..  even better if you can get yourself a High Density Amiga Floppy Drive,  I believe Amigakit http://www.amigakit.com sell them (External drives) or try http://www.vesalia.de/
