Title: Can not seem to get my big hd partition right in OS3.1
Post by: SimonV on October 27, 2011, 04:45:34 PM
Someone has an idea why I don't get the size of my 50gb partition right in OS3.1 ?

What I have so far: 2 partitions with PFS3DS 5.3 Filesystem, set up as described in the Guide that comes with. I did this from a OS3.9 emergency disk and included toolbox and everything is fine with these and formatted with pfs3 without problems . I can install OS3.5 on them without problems. Things is I want OS3.1 with magicwb on them. Installation of OS3.1 is no problem, boot partition is 280Mb . Only the partition I formatted as 50Gb in OS3.9, shows up as 712Mb.... I did rip a scsi.device from the OS3.5 boingbag and together with blizkick I patched it in there at boot. Version scsi.device says that's ok. But still no luck.

What am I missing ? When I reboot again with emergencydisk the big partition has again the big size.

There are not many programs in 3.1 which can deal with sizes bigger than 4GB correctly. Workbench definitely can not. But that's just cosmetic. The partition should work correctly nevertheless. Just the display is wrong.

To be sure, you can run check4gb (http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/check4gb) on 3.1.

Very odd it is. About IDEFIX, I use this for my telmex pcmcia cdromdrive and I read somewhere it als has scsi.device v116 ( or as such) in it.... where is that one after the install ? And if it is just cosmetic, how can I monitor diskspace ? DOPUS magelan ?

Anyway no mather what scsi.device I use, the big partition is always mounted and useable.

I can't remember the version numbers, but either an updated scsi.device from OS3.9 (3.5 as well maybe?), or the IDE-Fix patched version will allow the partition to work. The size reading seems to be a limitation of Workbench, where the free space number wraps around in multiples of 2 or 4GB. Other programs may read it correctly, but it shouldn't matter really. I've never filled a large partition that far, but I'd imagine when you get to less than 2GB remaining free that the reading would be correct as it's no longer wrapped around.

Anyone else confirm this?
