Because I want to, wanna fight about it? :-)
-
Makes me want an AOS4 machine even more.
-
Why Not? ;-)
-
Because it was there and we wanted to see what would happen :)
-
'cos I want to :)

Hi,
I use my Amiga to keep my important data.
Has not crashed since 1992 (unless I made it crash by accidentally formatting) but with lharc and Directory Master, I was able to reinstall quickly from backups.
Funny how Amiga takes a lickin and keeps on clickin (Amiga disk drive, HMMM I don't think PC's have them anymore).
Hopefully I haven't made any personal attacks on anyone!!

I've always been a fan of the classic hardware, so, I haven't looked at OS4 much. This is really impressive.
I was especially struck by how well it ran old native applications and they were still true to the original Amiga look and feel.
Hmmm ... maybe it's time to build myself a modern Amiga :-)
-
Because I like the quick boot times (and Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were/are nobs).

Great videos from this guy. I posted this one in my blog and had over 5,000 hits in one day LOL... seems my link was posted on a couple of big news sites. Best traffic I've ever had and spread the Amiga word :)
-
Because it weighs the same as a duck?
-
my mum told me to!
-
Because to me is more than a computer.

Only amiga makes it possible :D
-
Because Amiga rocks and peecee sucks :)
-
Nice vid - made all the better as you use one of my old tracker tunes to demo it from around 95, I think...made my day thx. squidbass formerly known as coneripper :-)
-
I must interject . . . .
The question should be "Why not use Amiga in 2011?" Why be a drone ?
-
"Mommy? Daddy? Sasquatch? Why is the world all spinny and magnets?"
-
Nice Video! I own a Flex and Morph Lic'ed mini and I still haven't had time to sort out what would run best on which platform. Very Helpful!

Because I want :afro:

Amigas = freedom & customising
+ they are a getaway from common and boring PC usage. And my Amigas do what I want them to do, not the other way around. I'm the Mastah! :hammer:
-
Familiarity, it really doesn't do anything better or faster than a modern computer, but it reminds me of my youth and this pleases me.
-
1. Efficient web-browsing
2. Minimalism
3. Customizable features
4. Loves the weird pseudo-kernel concept in AmigaOS
-
Same reason I've always used an Amiga - I enjoy it. And no amount of people yelling about how OS4 is overpriced or underpowered or whatever is going to change that! :)
-
Great video, it was the first time I witnessed MorphOS and AROS working. The neutrality of his speech is excellent, it made me confirm that I want an OS4 machine.
The Macmini Morphos option is awesome but only if I get the mac for free ;) I do like Acube's hardware and I will keep winbloze7 on my PC for gaming so my only question now is: When will the X1000 official price be announced so I can faint and choose a SAM460 instead? ;)
-
I read an article with a short mention on the Amiga.

I thought about this. BINGO! The whole Amiga experience is a tightly-knitted subculture. An awesome subculture in 2011.

For MIDI music composing.
Development of MIDI sequencers kind of plateaued and stalled sometime after DAW (digitital audio workstation multitracking software) hit the market. After that, MIDI sequencer software didn't get any R&D time, so they didn't get better - and actually may have gotten slightly worse (latency) with all the abstraction layers between the hardware and software on current OSes.
Bars & Pipes on the Amiga is still the best MIDI sequencer and the fact it bangs the hardware directly makes the Amiga a great, tight, MIDI composing tool.
Also, with trackers and the Paula chip, some consider the Amiga a musical instrument with a distinctive sound. You don't just stop using an old instrument especially when it has character (like a Les Paul guitar or a vintage tube amp) - you use it because of its special sound (and that's something that even emulators can't copy - even though I am big fan of UAE).
-
One thing I will say about the guy who did the review, is that he apparently has not spent much time with OWB in AROS and MorphOS as he claims here that they are nearly on par...
funny funny. ;)

I did say in the video, I'm least familiar with AROS out of all Amiga-flavours. It was really just to "show it", I'm much more experienced with MOS/OS4 to be honest.
-
Whoops, I just hit "send report" by mistake. :)
Anyhow...
I'm just nit picking of course, and as usual I mist do my part to stand up for MorphOS when ever possible. :)
In regards to the video as a whole...
Outstanding!! Which is why I felt compelled to share it here and on Facebook. :)

I agree.
Hi,
I disagree,
A mini mac running MorphOS is just another MAC running an emulation program, it is in no way associated with an Amiga. As a matter of fact, why does some one want to insult the Amiga name by saying it runs on a MAC. Everyone with a head on their shoulders know that even an old Amiga is better than a MAC.
MAC = Misusing Amiga Community
The only thing I would use a apple product for is a doorstop.
If you want to use a MAC go to a MAC site and tell them how good MorphOS is there.
No more MAC's

I suppose you could fork out over $1000 for a machine that happens to have the Amiga logo on it...
I think Piru might be able to set you straight on those emulation comments.
As for me, I love all varieties of Amiga. I just don't like to see one project dissed when it should be exulted, and another exulted when in fact it is still in what many would consider beta stages. Tie a sad game of mythology some people like to play in order to over hype things that show potential, but have not quite hit that certain mark yet.
Not to say that Dan is guilty of mythologizing of course, his comment was an honest mistake as he stated.

I'll reserve my dislike for Apple corporate for the products they're actually selling, thanks. These days the G3s and G4s and G5s are as cast-aside and underappreciated as any Amiga hardware, while the cultists chase after the latest bit of shiny being dangled along on a string by the marketing department. So what does that make them? Solid PPC hardware at bargain-basement prices, that's what. And frankly, I'm okay with that.

The official price of the X1000 was announced 1 hr ago. :afro:

As am I, and trust me, my hate for Apple knows no end...
...though I must admit, I do kind of like my iPod, though I can't say it's improved the quality of my life any, despite what the advert enticements say. ;)
“Through the computer, the heralds say, we will make education better, religion better, politics better, our minds better — best of all, ourselves better. This is, of course, nonsense, and only the young or the ignorant or the foolish could believe it.

― Neil Postman
BTW, for anyone who thinks I'm an AROS or OS4 hater, and a MorphOS elitist...
I will tell you this. When or if the day comes that AROS or OS4 gives MorphOS a run for its money, I for one will not hesitate to boast about their achievements!!!

thnaks was well done and very enjoyable watch
