Title: Best Internet Browser for AmigaOS 3.9?
Post by: carvedeye on October 07, 2011, 12:30:46 PM
Hi all finally got my amiga online and wanted to know what is the best browser for the classic amiga? My current setup is An amiga 1200 towered with an idefix 97 4way buffered interface with an apollo 1230 turbo (lc) with 4mb ram (any more ram and it conflicts with my PCMCIA slot) running AOS 3.9. I am currently running Aweb but for some strange reason it will not goto the websites i put in address bar even though genesis says im online? so what is the next best browser for my setup? :)

IBrowse! (http://www.ibrowse-dev.net)
but don't ask for illegal ibrowse2.key though :)

@carvedeye

Try AWeb, it's fast, free and doesn't require much ram.

Netsurf works pretty good so far on my amikit setup using OS3.9.   Give it a try, it can read CSS enough for my needs.

Netsurf for OS3.x is ok-ish, but while it can render CSS content ok it lacks some things that IBrowse, Aweb and Voyager have. Additionally it requires at very least an '060, graphics board, and considerable RAM. Pretty much for the realm of emulation.

I used my classic Amiga for 6+ years and most of the times the images were turned off, so I was only reading texts. IBrowse and AWeb suited me very well, IBrowse being the preferred. Now looking at this times I think you may be very well for basic Internet browsing even with Lynx (http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/lynx) that I used with custom screen simulating Unix colors, together with BitchX.

maybe you have problems on genesis config with DNS servers?
it seems that's why aweb will not go to the websites

Yeah i was having problems with DNS server but I re-configured genesis and now it's working fine. And it runs pretty well with the setup I have so I'm very please with it. I have ordered Easynet from amigakit so when that comes I will be changing the Ethernet to wireless. And then I intend on doing some network sharing so that I can access my pc's hard drives.
