Hello all,
am new to the Amiga retro scene but owned an ST in the early days and an Amiga for a brief amount fo time in the early 90's a 500.
Managed to pick up a 1200 with 4 gb CF card with WHDload and games, still waiting for delivery on it though. Had a good time reading about all the different expansions and accelerators that are available. However sadly it seems i have arrived at the scene a little late as there are no new ACA 1230 for sale. Will a fast ram card be good enough for WHD load ? what sort of price should i be looking at for these. I'm not sure whether its worth the hassle of accelerating my 1200 to get online as i am picking up a power mac to run morphos on and i think there is more mileage in that. Also just wanted to say its good there is still such an active scene. Cant wait to play speedball2 again on the hardware and not just uae.

Well, if you're going to have a MorphOS machine, there wouldn't be all that much need for getting the A1200 online as well, and these days it's not much use for web browsing anyway. Having said that though, a network and FTP can be quite useful for transferring files to and from other machines on your network.
As regards games, you'll probably find many of them won't work when run from WHDLoad without a memory expansion at least, since many games assume they have total control over the base machine. Keep an eye out on eBay and the classifieds sections on the various Amiga forums for ACA1230 and Blizzard 1230 boards - others might be worth a look as well...

yeah, just fast RAM card will be enough for most of them.

If you're looking to buy a memory expansion or a turbo-card, I recommend checking out Amibay.com (http://www.amibay.com/). It often happens that you can pick up a nice board for a lesser price than on e-Bay. :)

There's an ACA 1230/28MHz with 64MB of RAM on e-Bay right now:

Thought it might be of interest to you. :)
