I want to try OS 3.9, out of curiosity.
Is there anywhere I can get a copy?
-
piratebay....
-
I bought my copy last year from here: http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=catalog/software/operating_sys/os39-original.html&cart_id=8275668_755908

Amigakit or Vesalia most likely have it, but as A1260 says it's easy to find on trackers. Softhut would likely have it as well, but it generally takes time to get a response out of them.
I had bought it years back and found the CD to be too scratched to be read recently and ended up grabbing a new copy off TPB. Legal? No, but I did pay for it once, and I needed it for the new Amikit box I recently threw together. I won't lose sleep over grabbing a new copy of something I paid for once already, lol.

Try http://amigakit.com our http://vesalia.de

Am actually in China and PB doesnt seem to work here.
Tried those sites but 40 bucks is a bit steep for something so outdated and not likely to be updated IMO.
Oh well will just use 3.0 instead.

Rapid Search engine ?

The whole country is pirate bay!

The second hand or that somebody gave it to you.
-
Beg, borrow or steal it ;)
-
If you have Workbench 3.0 or 3.1 then go here and configure a ClassicWB ADVSP installation:
http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/advsp.htm
What you'll get is better than OS3.9 IMHO.
-
No it's ClassicWB 3.9 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBd5fgL6Gp4) all the way baby :)

Nice. I use ClassicWB 3.9 on my 68040 A4000 setup with RTG and while I thought my windows opened fast using my Radeon, that's certainly faster. Got to love UAE, but I still like my FPGA miggies and A4000. :)

its abandonware and paying for it there is no point in anymore, only if your a collector and want the cd with cover. if piratebay dont work just do a search on other sites (i cant give you links here obviously), its everywhere and very easy to find. if you got 3.0 i guess your kickroms are 3.0 to??... if so your better of with 3.0 anyway. you can always build aos3.0 to 3.5 at least, everything you need you find at http://aminet.net/.

Really? Are we this cavalier about piracy now? Vesalia sells it for 40 Euros. That's the price. Don't devalue the stock of one of the last remaining Amiga dealers.
-
I have to agree. If something is still for sale then saying its abadonware is wrong, there is no such thing as Abadonware anway. And if A1260 told me water was wet I would have to check.
Just because "YOU" think something is too expesive is no reason to steal it. If you are not willing to pay that price dont use it.

Agree, but there's also been a lot of reports of people buying a "legal" copy of 3.9 from "dealers" only to have it arrive on a CD-R with a sloppy B & W printout in the jewel case.
If I'm going to be a thieving scumbag, I'd prefer to do it by my own accord rather than fill the pockets of people masquerading as "keeping the Amiga alive!".
Make sure whoever you choose to support isn't just DL'ing off TPB and burning copies. Paying people to be pirates is worse than being one yourself, IMO.

Wonder if Haage and Partners would have a spare copy lying around :)
If I were to buy it would it actually come with documentation and a nice box etc.
I don't understand why it is so overpriced if it were 10 or even 20 euros more people would buy it rather than d/l it illegally. But then I am Scottish and we are notoriously tight fisted.
Is there anything on WB 3.9 that would make it a more worthwhile than say downloading some extras from Aminet?
I only have WinUAE here while the Miggy lives in my mum's attic.
-
OS wise, it's fairly well priced (3.9). As for how much you'll enjoy it over another WB version, I personally still prefer WB 3.1 and the various ClassicWB type packs are very nice. If it's going on a UAE box, you don't have to worry about a networking stack.
Some people love 3.9, I sorta find it cluttered and gaudy, lol. It's hard to go wrong with a well customized version of 3.1 in terms of reliability and usability. 3.9 has a lot of doo-dads to modernize it, which is a pro or con depending on your preferences.
-
some say 3.5 is better version? perhaps that one is cheaper if its for sale.

correct.... and commodore amiga and jay miner the father of amiga died in 1994... what we have left is 99% of people that masquerading as "keeping the Amiga alive!". the truth is hard to face but this is the facts. you dont support anything amiga anymore only filling peoples pockets that try to cash in on decade old software.

???????? I never realised that Commodore and all thirdparty dealers and hardware maufactures used to give amiga's away for free? Or sell stuff for no profit.

How disappointing, isn't it? :D

From whom do you think Vesalia (http://www.vesalia.de) purchases it's copies of (nowadays) hand-crafted OS3.9 CDs?

Why not, nothing wrong with that.

I managed to get this running now with WinUAE.
It only appears to have some of the capabilities working.
It boots to workbench ok but some of the items like the web browser are missing although they are on the file on my PC.
Is there something i am missing need to do?
-
Did you actually install the internet software through the installer? Theyre seperate installs (try running the OS3.9 installer again to see what I mean). A deault install will show a few internet files, but theyre basically place holders (for lack of a better term).
