Title: Developer Q&A: Syllable OS
Post by: Heiroglyph on September 15, 2011, 05:16:44 AM
An in depth interview with Kaj de Vos, a developer for Syllable OS, an Amiga inspired operating system continuing in the steps of AtheOS.

Late in the interview he spends some time discussing the appeal of Amiga and its software ecosystem.

SyllableOS, an experimental operating system that has mainly inspired from AmigaOS with some elements from BeOS. Yup. :pint:

From the article.

Similar to modular Unix command-line programs, many graphical Amiga programs had standardised interfaces that opened up their capabilities as building blocks that could be mixed and matched.

It's not explicit, but I think he's talking about ARexx. There's still nothing like it on other platforms. We remain the kings of interprocess communication! :)

Actually Mac's do just fine with interprocess communication.

Many programs have the capability, but how many take advantage of it? How many developers? I find it a lot harder to find AppleScripts than to find ARexx scripts.

Maybe it's my Amiga background but I use Apple Script all the time, just seems to make sense to automate as much as possible.
