Title: The case of the (new) Amiga...
Post by: Matteus on September 13, 2011, 06:21:11 PM
For me, it would be something like these two combined.

http://www.in-win.com.tw/products/pc_case/BL-Series/BL631W.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d8/Amiga_A1000_IMG_4275.jpg/600px-Amiga_A1000_IMG_4275.jpg

A mATX version of course, and not blue decor, but Amiga red and logo, etc.

Well, it's just a dream. But I like that clear white.

Just my .01€ (I used to be 2 cents, but due to the recession it's been reduced)

Either rip an existing A1000 motherboard and put it into a box of your choice.

Or use an FPGA Arcade that will fit in just about anything.

I was thinking more modern stuff, like mATX X1000 or Sam 460, maybe?

Those aren't Amigas.

Yes.. I would certainly like to see this design to become reality :cool:..

Do you happen to be into this business or just passionate?

I think this case is my favorite one (for today anyway), I would love one of these:

It's even got it's own video:

Well, the old A1000 already has a very neat case. :)

Yes, very nice, but it's more like a PC gaming case than a traditional Amiga case. I'd like the case to look like it is an Amiga, not a generic hi-tech PC chassi. The Amiga is not going to have a CPU and gfx card that draws 500 Watts, anyway. 100, maybe. I don't like power hungry monsters, anymore. They take up far too much space, costs too much to buy and have switched on.

Not sure. I like the original A1000 but not this. It reminds me of a plastic stormtrooper. But i think it's a good idea basing the new case around the A1000. Except it should be made of cnc'd polished aluminum like the Apples are and not crappy white plastic.

Alu? Hm, my thought on that are rather divided. Haven't got much luv left for the modern Apple-Intel traitor designs, either. Overpriced PCs, mostly.

Oh i agree. Apple suck big time. But you have to admit they make products with excellent construction quality. I'm typing this post on an Apple BT keyboard and it really is nice to use. I love cnc'd aluminum! If not Apple then Sony with their PS3 Slim and VAIO laptops. Both of these companies make products with the highest construction quality. But Apple still suck. Give me Windows any day.

Bottom line. Just because it's made using cnc doesn't mean it's an Apple.    Combine the above Stormtrooper design with a cnc'd case and i would be happy with that :)

But while we are talking about new case designs what about this? Doesn't get much more classy than this :)

@Kesa

That case is so fZuking Kool, I love it!

This one is rather nice too (and it's what my PC mobo is going into if I can find one in the UK).

@Matteus

You missed the point buddy. Take a look at the other innovations on that case, access, security etc...  It doesn't just look nice, it is an innovation in it's own right, shouldn't that have an Amiga inside? Try to imagine it in shiny white with a boing ball.

Yeah, not bad. But these are even better! The top has a glass panel and all. Best in the business (and expensive too). The obvious comparison here is the CDTV.

Could always go with something radical.

I like computer cases to be uncluttered.

Glee! I'll start: x86 is boring and I don't really give a damn whether it was a better business choice, it was a less interesting choice. Bleah.

When I was a kid, we used to program 65xx and 68xxx in mnemonics assembler for the fastest, smallest code. Today it's just bloated crap, for x86, everywhere you look. :furious:

:laugh1:
