I just tried to join and was denied? whats up with that? Are they not open to the public?

They made it like this as they were having problems with new "members" posting spam to the list.
Not exactly sure how to join, but send an email to one of these:

Maybe you have to prove that you are a True Amigian.
I run some lists there and have them setup the same way. There is just too much spamming and that's the only way to stop it. I just check and today alone one of my list had 20 spam messages waiting for approval.

I shall email them to see what the deal is. I understand the spam thing. I probably dont really need to join..just have two or three questions on my Samba setup on my Pegasos.

It may be that the e-mail you were trying to join with was of a type they might automatically reject.
I've had to do the same with the AmithlonOpen group because it was (and still is) being targetted by the spam brigade. It means a delay in signing up because I don't check on a daily basis, and in very rare cases genuine posters may get rejected because their e-mail is not obviously a genuine one.
In the worst case scenario, send me the question and I'll relay it to the AmigaSamba group for you.
