Title: What kind of DIY projects are you currently working on?
Post by: Florida on September 08, 2011, 03:06:56 PM
I have always wanted to build a PPC card  but for now I am working on a home made sound sampler.

I built a parallel port sampler many years ago - was based on a ZN448 ADC if I remember correctly, and basically wired directly to the parallel port... Happy days!

I'm starting to find some spare time so I'll have to think of a new project soon, but my most recent one is my MP3 jukebox. The hardware's mostly finished, the only bit I have left to do is the PIC-based IR remote receiver. The software still needs some work too, but that's ongoing. The remote part in itself could be useful as a stand-alone device for any Amiga, I guess that could be my project :)

If you wanna see the player, have a look here:

I'm scheming out a homebrew computer based on a couple TMS-9900 CPUs salvaged from broken TI-99/4As...not that I'm likely to ever get anywhere with the projct, but you know, fun to plan at any rate ;)

An adaptor (more likely a set of adaptors together) to fit my FPGA board to a Zorro slot. It's a PCI card format thing, and I was surprised that the PCI edge connector does not have enough signals for a Zorro slot. (PCI has more pins, but also more power, ground, and some PCI signals are noconnect on my board) So I'm looking to see where else I can get a few pins from, the 50pin header I can get I think 14 more from, the rest are shared with another item I don't want to conflict with. Once I'm done I should be able to plug this thing into a Zorro slot, and alternatively be able to plug a Zorro card "into" the PCI card. Ideally I want to be able to plug a Zorro backplane daughtercard from A3000 or A4000 desktop "into" the PCI card to have a full bus to play with in that direction. Then I can really play around. :) Might also be interesting to plug a Video-Slot card into the PCI card, such as a Toaster, but that doesn't interest me as much as toying with Zorro does.

I remember I drew up a plan to make a portable SID player in 1994. It would consist of a cpu, sid and the corresponding electronics + memory to hold sids.

Project Name:   WALK-SID  (kind of influenced by the Walkman from sony )

;) Of course, it was never realized. But I loved the idea.

Current project is putting the Replay board in its casing, adding the two PSX-64 adapters inside and add wireless PS2 adapters inside so I can have wireless Amiga-Fun from the sofa :)

Sub-Project: Making a bezel for the backside of the Replay board.

Started off as an in-between jobs project but now it's the best job I have (which kicks in right after the regular corporate drone 9-5).

Yes. I know. I need a life.

Reminds me of my other "eventually, someday" project to create a Minimoog-style monophonic synthesizer using a SID chip...

Plenty of nice C64 mods around, but here's a quick and easy option I turned into a keytar: http://www.qotile.net/cynthcart.html

Nice one tone007 :P
I build a SammichSID some time ago with 2x8580's

Lower PCB:

There is that, yeah, but I'd like to do one layering the voices similar to the Moog's three-oscillator monophonic synth. I believe the MSSIAH cart includes a module for this, but then I'd have to buy a MSSIAH cart, and anyway it'd be fun to do my own :D

Are there any companies out there who will design and print just one tiny one layer board for a project? How does it work, you send them a picture file like .iff or .jpg?

Those are a lot harder than they look. You should start easy, with new toilet seats. I did this to both my bathrooms. I'm calling it a makeover success !

It seems the more time I spend on Amiga websites the less time I seem to have for DIY projects! :(

Still working on my Star Wars project for PrBOOM-Plus...

All we got on Amiga is plain old PrBOOM, but I've got my hopes up. :)

Might try to remove the 68000 socket from my 2000 this week end.
