Title: WTB - 1.3 WB Disks or 2.x ROM & Disks
Post by: dwaldrop on September 03, 2011, 03:45:01 AM
Hi all!

I just rescued A500.   Looks like it is in pretty good shape.

It boots, but I need workbench disks for 1.3 *or* the enhancer kit for 2.x .

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Ehm, google it? Or buy Amiga Forever to get it. What is "the enhancer kit for 2.x"?

The enhancer kit, if I recall properly, was the set that had the 2.x version kickstart ROM and the workbench disks sets.

I have Amiga Forever.  I did not know I could create Amiga bootable disks from it.   I will look into that.  Thanks!

I just did that with Amiga Forever. You have to boot into at least 1.3 because PC can't write Amiga format. Then use a NULL modem cable and follow the instructions to transfer files with Amiga Explorer for creating disks on the actual Amiga. I used adf2drive I think it was named. You may wish to post your location to see if someone is near you that could lend a hand if you have nothing to boot into.

Enhancer was what they called the 1.3 upgrade, it consisted of the workbench and kickstart 1.3 disks. I guess they had a load left over as they included the kit in the a500. I've only seen it in that form, so I don't know whether you had to buy the rom seperately. The a500/a2000 only shipped with 1.2 prior to that and the difference between kickstart 1.2 & 1.3 was mainly the fix for autobooting hard drives, so it may not be worth upgrading the rom. Your a1000 however could be running on anything from pre 1.0, so they had to include a disk.

I don't remember workbench 2.04 being sold in a kit. AFAIK the kickstart 2.04 roms that were sold by dealers came from commodore as spares for the a500+/a600 & at least as first they weren't supposed to sell them for upgrades (even though they did).

Workbench 2.1 probably didn't have a rom either, but the dealers bundled it. Commodore didn't care at this point as there was a legitimate reason to buy a kickstart 2.04 rom.

The same happened with 3.0, new machines come out first and then the next revision was an upgrade. You could run 3.0 on an a500, there were a couple of bugs when running with OCS but IIRC one of the setpatch revisions dealt with that (even though there was no official way of running it).

Have a look here:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/140596598629?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

It is a complete package of OS 1.3
In another auction you will find KickRom 2.04 and I should have the OS package for it too.

I have a full set of 1.3 disks including "The Very First" and a set of manuals for an A500 including the WB1.3 Enhancer, A500 User Guide and Amiga Basic manual...

If you're still interested, PM me.
