A4k-IDE Controller
~3 MB/s
512 MB FAT16 Partition

movie is in realtime ... feels like a early 486/33
(or like stepfathers overloaded athlonx2 w. vista)

Because it's cool to even try it :)
Because it's awesome being able to boot alternative OSes than Workbench... on machines that existed earlier than that OS and with different architecture!

It's the same reason you try MacOS thru Shapeshifter (although that... is a lot faster and more responsive due to architecture and requirements).

Great work Ratte.  :)

I'm still determined to try this out on the FPGA Arcade with the 68060 board and see how well (or how badly) it works.  Perhaps the improved performance of the Minimig over the original classic hardware will coax a bit of extra speed out of it.

A nice one, I ran sometime ago under DOS was the rendering and modelling program called 3D Studio 4.

You can see 3D Studio for DOS over here:

Thanks Ratte, I enjoyed your video. I actually thought Windows 95 would be slower. Not many drivers loaded. :) I was impressed!

Hehe, that's awesome in a screwed up sort of way  :)

Gotta try this on my amithlon box soon. :)

How is it set up? Just copied the cab files over to the harddisc file and then run setup through dos? Also what is/isnt supported ? Id hazzard a guess there's no "proper" gfx drivers ? What about things like univbe (essentially optimised vesa)? Is sound supported ? Anything a person should know when installing Win95 through pc-task?

Thanks in advance :)

The awesome part is running WinUAE on top of '95... ;)

Did you tried that PCTask hardfile on a modern PC running WinUAE? You may get proper speed in that case. And it could also fly with the Natami soon.

It makes sense to launch those alternative OS because it is always useful to be able to use some softwares, like Word 6 or old Photoshop on the Shapeshifter Macintosh.

It's slow as hell, on 060/50 it took probably 2.5 hours to install. Booting took 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. And window opening was clearly slower than on 060/90. For me it bluescreened very easily mostly requiring a reinstall. I preferred Dos to do something.

@zipper

Yeah, I wouldnt bother installing it on my a1200 (40mhz '040), but Im wanting to give it a try on my amithlon box (3.86ghz core2duo, 32 meg matrox g550, sb audigy,1 gig ram... ie. fully supported system). Given that its probably 100x or more faster than my 40mhz '040 I think it should perform reasonably well. I used to Play PC Wing Commander 2 on an old athlon xp 1800+ amithlon box and it ran very well, so the 4x (per core) as fast c2d should be quite nippy.  :)

Nice effort, too bad it hangs eventually. If you've got some time to kill, try out 98Lite, which is a cut-down version of win98. It might just run on your machine, although I tried installing it at mine (upgrade from win95) and kept getting installer lockups.
