Reminds me of passing through school, starting off with the RISC OS 2, then getting an Amiga at home (WB2), starting secondary school (Mac Sys 7) and the new miggy (WB3) and then starting work (PC).

Lets home Amiga Inc can continue their part of the timeline for the next 20 years............

Nice site. . . kinda interesting to me to see how little the windowed environment has changed over the years. Granted there have been improvments on asthetic elements of the GUI such as number of colors displayed, backdrops, shadows, etc, and the processing power behind the systems but functionality really hasn't been improved upon since the really early days once icons, gadgets, windows, and menus were developed.

It would be nice to see something really new as far as UI design is concerned to come, (and I am not talking about melting windows like in MacOSX or crazy spinning and warping windows like are planned for longhorn.

Still an interesting site I had a good time looking at.

Oh, dear lord. Did you have to remind me that Windows 3.1 even existed?
The time line was nice but could have gone in to more detailed descriptions. Desktops have been getting better to look at. Though I would like to see more under the hood improvement or different operational philosophy.

I hadn't seen Windows 1.0 before.  My eyeballs nearly melted and fell out.

You know, someone made a copy of Windows 1.03 that you can put on a 3.5" floppy and boot on modern PCs for a look. I have a copy... Interestingly even the USER.DLL GDI.DLL etc seem to be implemented as overlays.

Kept me bemused for a short time ;-)

It is still around. A quick Google should locate it if you want it, although I'm pretty sure I still have a copy.
