Title: Lost it all
Post by: swift240 on August 03, 2011, 05:45:35 PM
Due to a low life piece of S*** I have had most of my Amiga gear stolen.
Yes the Police do know about it but as yet can not prove any thing as yet.

I mostly need a Amiga OS3.9 disc or an ISO image I have backups of  a lot but not every thing. My Amiga was taken I do have a spare mobo I can use and a spare PSU.

What I have left is this.

Joystick
spare Amiga mobo with 3.1 ROM's
Spare PSU
Spare 3.5" floppy drive unit.
Spare mouse.
I still have all my magazines.
I have 1 spare DVD burner and 1 spare CD burner.
1 spare case and keyboard before it was all put into a PowerTower case.

I do know I can get the spare mobo up and running if I can get a hold of either a Amiga OS3.9 disc or an ISO image.
I have got another Harddrive from eBay to get started with.

Gutted yes I am totally 100% gutted, I have lost years and years of hard bought and found Amiga gear to some one I know but can not prove a thing as yet.
This is going to take me a long time to get to the point of where I was before it was all stolen.

Any help of a disk or ISO would be most grateful.

TIA.

Mike

If you have access to a PC then just get on a certain Captain Jack themed website and search for "Amiga" and you can download a OS3.9 ISO from there.

Where was your stuff stolen from?  Your house or was it in storage?  I hope you get it back.

Sorry to hear that, but since it sounds like you know who did it, why not just point the police to his/her place?

I did but when they went there he had nothing.
But the word was, it was him who took it all, he just isnt that stupid to have it at his place just yet. And it was me who got the warning from the Police don't take the law into your own hands. Its the same old thing knowing and proving are 2 different things. A lot of others know it was him, but the Police have to many things on at the moment but if they find out any thing they will let me know.

Yes this is how they work.................

Mike.

Speak to these "others" and see if they can find out where it is stashed.

Also, see if you can get someone to be recommeded to him as a "retro hardware buyer".

Swift, I'll PM you about a 3.9 Disc. Sorry about your loss, wish I was close enough, I would go over to the guys house and beat him up.

You have an E-mail.

In the US our police system is much different. For example, In VA, if you shoot a perp in your home, you generally get no charges, even if the perp dies, because of castle law which dictates anyone uninvited to your home and endangering life/property can be shot.

Good thing you live in VA. The last time I tried to complain about someone threatening me, the local police threatened me with a disorderly conduct charge.
Maybe I should have just invited him in, shot him, and put a knife in his cold, dead hand (Castle Law).

Mag, think about what you just suggested. Do you really think an insurance company is going to pay for a 20 year old computer?

1st off Swift, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Really must feel violated and hurt, 'specially if they were a friend at one time.

This same exact scenario just happened to my brother a little while back. Had a loser/scumbag/druggie/freeloading "friend" that entered his home while he was at work and stole ALL of his consoles and most of his games. And yes Iggy, his insurance company paid up. Had simple renters insurance as he rents one side of a duplex. He was quite happy with the claim actually and because he had his receipts for the modern stuff, got most ALL of that value back. Real easy to prove what the older stuff is worth now-a-days thanks to the internet, previous history of sales on ePay, Amibay, Craigslist, wherever.

The Police aren't totally useless when it comes to this... you do need them to fill out a report in order for your insurance claim to get processed. lol   They also put A.P.B.'s out for your stuff at places such as pawn shops, music stores that accept trade-ins, etc. It's the single most reason why you need to show I.D. anymore when trading a game in at a retailer here in the States.

@Iggy

Come to Virginia, where gun related laws and defense related laws are very good at protecting the victim.

And also, IIRC if someone threatens you with a weapon and you have a gun, you can use it in defense, just go for the head and send that scumbag out of here.

Umm yes actually. Did YOU think about what you wrote? If you have apt. insurance it is covered. Vintage gear is worth money too. Everything has value.. Dont know if they have apartment insurance in UK though...

As far as USA police they are completely useless for this kind of thing. Once when I had my first place @ 19yrs old , I used to have parties on weekends. I had a little office with a locked up storage file cabinet. Well I was at work one night and my place was broken into
(probably someone I know from the "parties") and they stole my inherited coin collection, about $1500 us dollars, my passport, some gold jewlery and more. Also stole my stereo and other stuff. The thief or thieves used a crow bar to open the cabinet which they actually left on the scene. When the cop showed up to take the report I asked him to take in the crowbar for fingerprints as its obvious they used it and i didnt own one. You know what he said? " You have been watching too much tv, we arent going to fingerprint anything"

If you do some research online and talk to others you will see that when police respond to a location, especially a home the first thing they do is look at you as a suspect and look around your home for contraband and crime to ARREST YOU!

Did you know that when you call in to report a crime or as a witness or whatever that YOU become the prime suspect? (or in cop talk " a person of interest" ) ah boy like good ole times in Berlin..

Man I feel for you. The same thing happened to me just about 9 months ago. I know who did it, but can't prove it, and our local police apparently don't consider 20 year old computer equipment worth working on.

Actually they do, but you have to take out a special policy like I did that covers things like the Amiga which are classed by them as "Collectables" and there is tons of small print that it's advised you read first if you ever do the same... ;)

PS: My miggies are even covered by Earthquake damage, don't think I should have chosen that option though as I don't think we've had an Earthquake in Scotland for at least 10,000 years, still... I live in hope... :)

As a Scotsman, you should have them covered for "whisky & porridge damage" for those drunken nights spent wiggling a joystick with one hand while splashing food and drink all over the place with the other.  :D

Oh, and just in case you missed yesterday's footie results:

Swansea City 2, Celtic 0.  :D
