I took a couple days off and went down to visit my sister in law and joined the madness in the costco grand opening!
WooHoo, more wheetabix than I could possibly shove in my face in a week!!!!
-
Made in China, sold by China, how quaint.
-
We have a positive balance of trade with China, so I can't complain.
-
There workers who churn out his cheap stuff are not though, nor are the jobless in other countries, but that's just politics as usual. :)
-
Actually I would hazard a guess that 2/3s of Costco's products are not imported. Perhaps more. There's the TVs and other electronics and the clothes but the Wheatabix I bought was made up in the central coast about an hour or so from Costco.
We're planning to spend the weekend in Canberra and will catch the opening of Costco there.

Well don't get me wrong, I like bargains too, it's just that I see a trend here in the states where jobs are being out sourced because of the cheap labor which means more and more families are finding it difficult to make ends meet. Likewise the countries where these jobs are going have no slavery laws, they syllable have peasants, indentured servants, prisoners of the state, no child labor protect, etc. The people work long ass days. With little to no pay. And sadly they can not fight back because the powers that be are sure to provide their dictator's with the means and resources to maintain military strength...
Business as usual.
Sorry, didn't mean to make this another example of why politics are flawed. I hope your country is not enduring the same thing.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to garage selling tomorrow!!! :)

the prosperity of the west is built on the misery of the third world.

Hmmm... CostCo sounds like Asda here which is now owned by WallMart so I blame the Yanks meself (mind you I blame them for everything anyway so wotsit matter)... :)

Wow... how many garages do you own, you must be rich... :)
-
It's a term here in the states. People sell their used **** out of their garages or lawns...
the only way I like to buy things really, except of course for the Amiga gear I purchase...
speaking of which, just so you all know. I will be buying a China made Natami. So yes I am a little hypocrite, but at the same time I RARELY buy anything new, even the majority of my cloths are from thrift shops. I try to keep my contributions to the power that be to a minimal and if I were rich, I'd still live the same way...
...how do I know I could resist temptation? Well because I used to make mad cash once upon a time, been working my way down the almighty corporate ladder since then. ;)
-
actually with the natami, the components are undoubtedly made in china, but i imagine they'll be assembled in germany
-
Dunno about the rest of the world but here in the UK if they stopped selling stuff made in China, the store shelves would be empty... :)
Just the way it is these days, most folk don't give a monkeys about where stuff is made or the pittance and conditions the factory workers have to put up with, all they want is stuff cheap, nothing else matters to most consumers I'm afraid... :(
-
Ya, and then consumers complain when they in fact feed the very beast that will lead to their demise and suffering. Go figure.
Hey, we can't cuss here anymore. What gives? I can't even use another word for poop that begins with "SH" What the Puck?!

Yes, it's sad, I have to go against my own personal standards on this one, but only for Amiga! :)

Costco Canberra looks similar to Costco Sydney. As a former ACT resident I was happy to see Costco come to the capital. Ah shopping in Oz will never be the same. Good bye Woolies, Coles and Aldi, especially Aldi....
-
And good by mom and pop businesses, and hello to homelessness! :)
