Hiya,
Working on putting together at least one working 1200 out of all these bits I've got laying around. ;) I've got a Cobra '030 acclerator. There's a socket for a chip that's empty. I'm guessing it's for an FPU? IS it a common enough part that I could find one to just drop in there? Or is it more involved than that?
Any idea how big a SIMM I can put on this guy? Maybe even a 32 megger? Would love to pimp this 1200 out as much as I can.
Thanks for help!

The DKB Cobra?
The socket will almost certainly be for an FPU. You can buy them for not-too-much, but they're a bit pointless. Very little Amiga software can make use of them.
As for the RAM, it'll happily take a 32MB SIMM. In fact, it'll take up to a whopping 128MB SIMM if you can find one.
Be aware that the card needs a firmware flash to run on Kickstart 3.1. If you have Kickstart 3.1, you'll need to remove the RAM to get it to boot, then flash it with the firmware upgrade (It's on the DKB Ferret disk image, download from here: http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/cobra)

with the Fpu you have 2 choices, get one that matches the cpu speed or get one at any speed and add a matching crystal(dont forget to set the jumpers).

Yeah, and don't go off othe speed of the CPU, look at the crystal (silver 4 pin "box" right next to the empty socket). The 28MHz. version is aparently using a 20MHZ. 030 that is overclocked.

It will take a nice 64MB Simm from here for $15 AU : http://www.amigamaniac.com/ram_various.html
You will have to do a small mod to the socket to get it to click in place because of the closeness of the two rear chips to the edge connector as in this pic:
Tools required: Hobby knife and care.
As to the FPU I have no idea how hard they are to get hold of.
