So I was told that since I have a subway, I can just plug in a CD-ROM drive and it would work....
Well it does detect, but it does not work. An icon for the CD-ROM does not show up on the desktop.
So my next question is, what software do I need to make the CD-ROM show up so I can browse it's contents?
I would prefer something free and easy, but if I have to pay for it to have quality, easy to use software, then point me to that.
Thank you!
EDIT: I also want the ability to play Audio CD's with this as well, not to mention have the ability to burn Cd's if possible.

If you bought the Subway board it should have came with AllegroCDFS which I use with mine, it's as simple as placing it in the L: Drawer and making a DOSdriver text file for it... :)

Sorry had to nip out to the chinkies to get a nice curry to watch WWE LIVE "Money In The Bank" shortly... :)
Now... what amiga model memory etc.. are you trying to set this up on and hopefully I can put together a DOSdriver and CDfilesystem and email them to you... :)

Try AsimCDFS its one of the best imho and the in the config you can select your subway device driver.. then Asim auto generates all you need.

Franko: A600
Magnetci: Will try this when I find it. thankx!

Meant to ask, do you have an accelerator & extra ram (really needed if you want to be able to burn CDs or DVDs)... :)

I use the fast and free AmiCDFS on my Amigas to read CDs and DVDs. I also use it to read discs from an external CD drive through the Subway in an A1200. You can get it here: http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240
Once installed, you simply configure it to use the Subway device. I'll run through it myself and type up full instructions if you want.
You won't be able to burn discs through the Subway, sorry. The clockport is just too slow, I don't think it would even work through the new faster clockport on the A604, although reading through that will be nicer. You also won't be able to play CDs through your Amiga's Paula audio. You can use a CD player program to tell the CD drive to start playing a CD, but unless you have an external amp and speakers connected to it, you won't hear anything. Plugging some speakers into the headphone port on the front of the drive would work if it has one. I have experimented with it already, the programs that would normally spool the CDDA data through the SCSI bus and translate and play it through Paula won't work with the Subway.

Poseidon will automount if you have AmiCDFS installed (by default). You can reconfigure it to automount using another CDFS, but I'm not sure of the correct arguments to enter in Trident.

Not quite true Cammy, even without an accelerator (just some extra fastmem) you can burn CDs using the subway... :)
You really need at least an 030 to burn at anything higher than 1x speed and also to be able to play audio via the Paula (though even on an 030 playing audio via Paula aint much fun)... :)
With an 060 it's a breeze but I don't recall there ever being an 060 board for the A600... :(

O.K. scratch CD Burning off that list. 1X is too slow unless burning for the Sega Dreamcast, then it has it's uses. :)

Alright, got the latest version of ASIM cdfs, but don't see support in the installer for Subway.
What next?

While I don't use ASIMCDFS myself i've just dug out an old version I have (Ver 3) and after you've put ASIMCDFS in your L: drawer you'll need to create or edit the CD0 DOSdriver to suit your set up... :)
There should have been a CD0 DOSdriver with ASIMCFS so you should be able to edit that one quite easily... :)
/* ASIMCDFS MountList For CD0 using Subway */
Device = usbscsi.device
Unit = 0
Buffers = 192
BufMemType = 5
Mask = 0xffffffe
Flags = 0
FileSystem = L:ASIMCDFS
DosType = 0x662dabac
GlobVec = -1
Mount = 1
Reserved = 0
LowCyl = 0
HighCyl = 999
Surfaces = 1
BlocksPerTrack = 32
Priority = 10
StackSize = 5000

This is an example of a DosDriver for CD0 using the Subway & ASIMCFS Ver 3.6
Not sure which version of ASIMCDFS you have but it should be similar to the this version unless it has been updated to allow you to use the tooltypes of the CD0.info icon file.
In which case you'd need to put the following tooltypes into the CD0.info file...
DEVICE = usbscsi.device
UNIT = 0
The above are just as an example if your going to call the device CD0 and using ver 3.6 of ASIMCDFS and using it as unit 0... :)

Thankx, I'll go home and have a stab at this and or other packages.

AsimCDFS did the trick just like Magnetic said, though I was not able to make complete sense of the installer till Franko posted his bits of info.
Thanks all!!
