Hello all,
I have an A500 with 1.2 Kickstart, and I was wondering if I could run Relokick 1.3 on it.
Thanks!
-
Never tried it but in theory i don't see why it should not work. Try it, you have nothing to lose. Post results.
-
Remember that you'll need 256K of RAM to hold the 1.3 image. If it's a 1.2 machine, I'm guessing you only have 512K to begin with, so things might get a little tight.
Still, worth a try to see if it works!

Agreed. The whole purpose of the program is to put a replacement ROM in memory, correct? So techniclly you should be able to do this with a 3.1 ROM and be done with it.
heh, 3.1 on a A1000. That would be soooo cool...

There are/were some videos kicking around of 3.9 on a 1000 (it had some RAM expansions, though). Twinkick project, maybe? Amiga Inc made them take it down. :(

Why? You'd think they would want people to see something like that and get them interested in doing some crazy cool modding and buy their OS update...
Oh well...

I have to agree with J-Golden that this is crazy. Why ask them to take it down when it could drive business for them?
Oh well there is nothing crazier than folk.
As for the question posed by the OP.
Like others on this thread I can't see why it can't be done. You just have to remember the memory constraints when using the Kick image. I have a couple of 1.3 disks, for my 600, I will test this on my 500 as well.
==edit== wait my 500 is dead..... Power is getting to it but it's not booting up. hmmmm oh well never mind.

@ J-Golden & CritAnime
We know now that Amiga Inc is utterly insane and completely ineffectual, but this was back in the days when:
a) it looked like there was a chance that they'd release a product
b) enough people took their threats seriously

+1 And I no longer give a shit about them cause I'm rockin my MCUmall GQ-4X (http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4282) now. You are officially excused Amiga Inc. by The Goose!
:hammer:

Thanks, I will give it a shot then. This is on my A500, with additional 512MB slow RAM added onto its trap-door expansion bay. Yes, my concern is only for running games off of floppies and I wanted to make sure if 1.2 is the most compatible Kickstart or not. Some say it is 1.3, that is why I wanted to give Relokick a try on my 1.2. Thanks!

It's possible to run Relokick 1.3 twice on your Amiga.
Years ago I forgot to take out the disk from my Amiga 1200. It loads another version of Relokick in the memory.

Back in the early 90s, I used to do similar things on my A1000. I would boot from a 1.3 Kickstart floppy, then my Workbench floppy's startup-sequence would check the graphics.library (i think?) to see the version numbers, and if it was < the one for 2.04, it would skick (? my memory is hazy) the 2.04 kickstart rom into RAM. (I had 2.5mb ram in my Data Flyer, so there was enough space for it.)
Later on, I "acquired" a beta 3.0 rom, and did similar things with it.
It was quite awesome. :D I still have that workbench/rekick/skick floppy kicking around. It eventually got merged into my 100mb hard disk, when I got that. Very handy!

I tried the Relokick 1.4 (GESSUS) version on my A500 with 512MB Slow RAM and when it ask for press LEFT button, I get this error:
1> Unknown Command
I know my Relokick 1.4 floppy is fine, since it is working on my A600HD and A1200.
