Title: Enhanced Body Blows ?
Post by: fishy_fiz on July 12, 2011, 01:58:14 AM
While I thought the game in any of its guises was massively over-rated Ive always been curious about AGA enhanced version of Body Blows1. Has anyone ever used it? Has a turbo mode amongst other tweaks so far as I know, but Ive never seen it reviewed and have only ever seen it mentioned in magazines of yesteryear, which seem to suggest its an add on disc or 2.

Can anyone elaborate here please ?

Haven't played the AGA version but the Galactic version would be the pic of the bunch for me.
Graphics take a step up, music/sound effects far better than the original.

:-)

A quick look over at LemonAmiga suggests that the only difference was the inclusion of 256 colour backgrounds. But the fighters were unchanged though which was odd...

I had the A500 version and also the cd32 version. Only difference i noticed was extra characters.

CU Amiga magazine Mentions a turbo mode as well besides the "enhanced" backdrops. I've just stumbled across it now so I'll have a look myself.

As for my new phone, u may be confusing me for someone else. Im not really a phone person  :)  I did get my 6 year old phone soaked my some clown a while back and was going to replace it, is that what you mean?  Thankfully though after a week of drying out it came good again (more or less, the front lcd display is now sometimes backwards, upside down, or both  :))

Yeah, the CD32 version is "Ultimate Body Blows" which is just a combination of both "Body Blows" and "Body Blows Galactic" with a new mode or two added...

I did like the series despite its short falls in comparison to the more entrenched franchises like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II.

In fact, and I can't believe I still remember this, the other Amiga Tech (Allen) and I would always find ways to quote their lines like Mike's, "I'm sorry about that...", what's her name's, " No Problem!"  or, my favorite, Ninja's, "nin-JA!!!!" and we'd say them in the same bad voice acting pretending to be all macho...

I guess I liked the last one most because it involved me jumping out of a hidey place in an attempt to surprise Allen.:roflmao:

Yeah it was definitely you. I remember because it was just after i got my new blackberry so i had a spare which i offered to give you as yours got soaked. You didn't want it because you said you were going all out on a new smartphone.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it was the samething. As everyone has already pointed out, they really didn't change much when they "upgraded" the game to AGA/CD32 versions...:(

I always found the Body Blows backgrounds to be quite bland without any of the "pop" (i.e., saturation, brightness and contrast) and action that a game like SFII had (on the SNES anyway).

I enjoyed playing this on CD32 way back when.

we enjoyed galactic a fair bit, something new and original. The original kinda passed us by.

Finally had a look. As I was led to believe there is a turbo mode in AGA version of BB1. Seems there's a bit of confusion about Body Blows and its versions though in here. To clarify things:

Body Blows1 has both an ocs and aga version. These are more or less the same game. Same characters, same backgrounds (although enhanced a little for AGA), same characters and amounts of characters. The only differences are the extra speed and moderately enhanced background graphics.
Body Blows Galactic is the sequel and it comes in both ocs and aga versions. Again, both versions are nigh on identical apart from slightly enhanced graphics in the AGA version. No longer has turbo mode for AGA.
Ultimate Body Blows is a CD only game that is more or less a mixture of the 1st 2, but with some new backdrops. For my tastes this one had the best background graphics.

As for Mike. What the heck does he say? Yes people have mentioned there's little changed, but that has nothing to do with my question.

He is clearly shouting out the name of the owner of Amiga.org and the signal is instantly being jammed and censored by Transition.

So all you hear is a scratchy garbled mess. :D

Surprised so many people can't understand it, sounds clear enough to me, he says "I'm sorry about that".

Off-topic, but I cant resist mentioning the greatest beatemup the Amiga ever saw:

Fightin' Spirit

video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4jdNPsbdow

I guess not everyone will agree but compared to Body Blows this is really much much better.

fighting spirit and shadow fighter are both excellent. For some reason I keep getting a "not enough memory" error from fighting spirit though, despite 64 megs of RAM.

It ran on my old 8 meg card so who knows.

Back in hte day, we played both Mortal Kombat (2 especially) and Street Fighter 2 a fair bit on the amiga. Nobody had a console anyways, so never bothered us that there were better versions

Well, the problem with Amiga beat-em-up's it that they just never delivered the complete package. Some had excellent graphics (Capital Punishment, Elfmania, SSF2) but lacked in gameplay or sound department while others played like a dream (Body Blows, Shadow Fighter) but lacked visual polish. IMO Fightin Spirit delivers in all departments though it is starting to show its age, too.

A while ago I was playing some old SNK beatemups using NeoMAME, those games are still worth playing.
