Hi Amiganians,
I have a problem that is running for a very long time, i'll spare everyone the details.
This is my configuration:
Amiga 1200 mobo
Mirrage Tower
Mediator SX
Blizzard PPC 6840 cpu
FastATA 1200 MK-II
2,5 inch Toshiba HS(60 hgb)+2,5 inch Seagate (250 Mb) HD
Voodoo 3 dfx videokaart
I just don't seem to be able to get my hd+cd rom connected. I have tried many things:
Connected the seagate directly to the 2,5 connector op de FastATA 1200 MK-II, nothing else, but the hd was not recognized in the bios (early startup amiga menu). I then checked if it was properly connected (the FastATA 1200 MK-II that is, it is connected OK). I use a
2.5>2.5>3.5 cable, could this be the problem ?
Also my floppy drive is acting strange, the animation appears but it does not respond to floppy inserting, tried ide cable in both ways, on results in passive floppy animation, the other way, it does not respond at all. I read everywhere that the internal ide should work on the FastATA 1200 MK-II, but in my case it does not. I tried with another 1200 mobo (80 euro's!!), no result to be happy about. This is realy frustrating as i have 5 pc's running (windows) that work fine, while the most expensive on of them all (Amiga) is gathering dust.... (pfff). I used ide'99 before also did not work. I assume i cannot just connect the 2,5 seagate directly on the native ide on the mob, seeing that is connected with the FastATA 1200 MK-II.

Hi there! I guess you installed the FastATA drivers so the FastATA can work properly?
http://www.elbox.com/downloads_fastata.html (http://www.elbox.com/downloads_fastata.html)
And then, why dont you try backwards, first connect only floppy drive, if it works, then floppy + seagate, if it works, etc etc. That way, you can "see" or have an idea where to start to fix things.
Try this. Im sure many others will help you deeply than me. Its been too long since last time i used a config just like yours, and i had many problems, but at the end, everything was cool, thanks to the folks here, who gave me lot of info and help
Sebastian
PD: im not sure but...i think, not 100% sure that FastAta and Mediator dont like each other...why dont you try also taking Mediator apart, and test the FastAT part first? then you can move on.

The FastATA bypasses the onboard IDE so I don't think you can connect directly to the Motherboard IDE, I'd imagine it would not work and potentially cause other issues.
I have the same setup as you (except I have 060/PPC) so I have FastATA MkII/Voodoo/Mediator SX
I also could not run a 2.5in HDD off the 44way connector on the FastATA, instead I use CF cards off this connector or you can use 3.5in HDD off the 40way IDE.
Here is a cool tip for you, if you connect a CF-IDE adapter to the 44Way IDE on the FastATA and a 3.5in HDD to the 40way IDE CF will take priority if you have a CF card inserted (it disables the 40Way IDE) and if you leave the CF unplugged then the Amiga will boot from the 40way IDE with the CF disabled. Cool eh?
I use this for my multiboot setup, i.e I have OS4.1 Classic on a 3.5in HDD on the 40way primary and a couple of CF's with CWB P96, etc.
I have OS3.9 on my BPPC SCSI (Via SCSI-IDE) and if I insert a blank non bootable CF in the CF-IDE it disables the 40WayIDE in the and boots from the SCSI. You can still use the FastATA driver to use a DVDRW off the secondary IDE and the 44way IDE (with blank CF) is available for file trasfers.
Hope that helps,
Steve.

I have about a dozen amigas with fast ata and none of them conflict with floppy. I would say check your installation and power supply. Follow Gavilan, he's got the right Idea.

Hi Amiganians,
Connected the seagate directly to the 2,5 connector op de FastATA 1200 MK-II, nothing else, but the hd was not recognized in the bios (early startup amiga menu). I then checked if it was properly connected (the FastATA 1200 MK-II that is, it is connected OK).
Silly question time have you tried running hdtoolbox yet and partitioning the drive as drives only show up in the early startup menu on the Amiga after they have been partitioned and a bootable partition has been created as it bootable device not actual hard drives that are displayed :-)
