At 1:20am GMT my Amiga 600's floppy drive coughed out it's last breath of life. It has served me well for many years and I am saddened that it has happened. Especially as I have spent so long giving it TLC just to keep it going for a bit longer. :(
However i can't stay down about it for too long. I need to get the old girl back up and running so I was wanting to know what avalable option I have for replacing it. I was curious about those floppy emulator things and if anyone had much luck with it.

You can go to eBay or AmiBay and get another one. I think a A600/1200 drive will work for you, don't think an A500/1010 drive will fit right. You can also have a PC Drive in there if you want to get crafty.

I have seen a few refurbished drives on eBay. Contemplating getting one.

What's the problem precisely?

You can also get a brand new drive from Amigakit :)

It made an almighty squeal then a crunch. Now it just wont read anything.
It also mangled Turrican 2 in the process. :(
@fitzsteve
Yeah I noticed them while looking for drives. Would make a better choice to buy a new one rather than a refurb.
However I am still curious about the drive emulators.

...so it's something serious...
It maybe fixed, but you need to open drive, check out the mechanics and spend some time...
A spare drive it's not a bad idea in this case.

Yes, but you won't read real 3,5" disks.
Having at least a real external drive (or drive emulator as an external drive) is advisable to load real stuff.
BY and good luck!

How did it Mangle Turrican 2?
IF it is physical like chewing up the magnetic part of the disk, man, I'd just get a new or used drive. Trusting any of my other Amiga games to something that has already "eaten" one good game is just asking for it...:(

I scrapped the drive right away. But before I did I opened the drive and found that the head appeared to be out of allignment and that the motor had a scorch mark on it. So dunno what happened. In anycase new drive ordered :D
