Maybe install Workbench on it? I'd give the 3.1 disk labelled "Install" a go ;-)
-
I only have 500 software like workbench 1.3.2 rev. 34.28.
-
Anyone else have a clue what to do next or what I need other than a K board as I,m keen to see what it is like and would also like to know what I need to use the files I have as adf with it thanks.
-
If you have a set of Workbench 1.3 disks, install it.
It doesn't matter what machine they came with, it will work fine.
-
I didn't think 1.3 came with an install disk? Does 1.3 even include a disk prep tool? If so, you could boot workbench from floppy, prep (format) the HD then from DOS do a copy df0: hd0: (or similar - I forget the exact syntax).
I'm sure someone will give you more useful information though ...
-
1.3 and below came with neither an install disk, nor a disk prep utility. Simply copy the contents of the disk to your HD and reboot. Assuming of course, your HD is formatted, partitioned, is small enough to be seen by the OS, etc.
...I'm guessing your HD is somewhat prepped though, which is why it boots to the command prompt. When booting off the Workbench floppy, you might see an icon that represents your HD and partitions. If the icon reads something to the effect of "bad" or has garbage and goofy text under it, go ahead highlight it and select 'format' to prep it. If you do not see icons for your HD, you can always use an A2091 install disk to prep your HD using OS1.3.

Get a proper set of WB 3.1 disks and do it right.
-
Buy a 3.1 ROM and install WB3.1!
I've never had much fun with a HD equipped Amiga running 1.3.

Agreed.
I have my A2000 equipped with KS3.1 running OS3.9 (for which you need a 68020 or greater) and then run my games from WHDLoad.
I'm guessing that as he has a hard drive then he might have a SCSI controller with extra RAM... or he might want to add this beauty:

and a flicker fixer:

and why not get rid of that SCSI stuff and go IDE:

Do you have Kickstart 2.04 or 3.1? Can't tell from your pic.
If you want I have a set of Workbench 2 disks (3) I can sell for cheap. Let me know.
-
And if you don't have and 020 or greater then at least you can still use the roms to load up Wb3.1 i have that on my A1200 030 and its heavily customized i would say it almost as good as 3.9 (but i do mean heavily).
That way even WB3.1 you would have a far easier time with HD and stuff.
-
I'll bring over all the Workbench disks we need, and maybe a spare 3.1 ROM and a ROM Switcher so you can switch between 3.1 and 1.3 (the best all-round combo).
I might even have a spare null-modem cable hanging around to use for linked games with the A2000 and an A500, or for transferring stuff to and from a PC to the Amiga. Only thing is you would need a PC with a big serial port.
If you want, we can try and install Classic Workbench onto it. It's a very popular Workbench distribution which has several programs and utilities pre-installed and ready to go. It also provides a good base to work from and is set up for WHDLoad games already.
Have a look at these and see if you like the look of them:
Regular ClassicWB - http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/68k2.htm
Green Alien Edition - http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/gaae.htm

LOL i didn't even notice you where in NSW where in NSW are you?
I do have 1.2, 1.3, 2.04, 3.0 and 3.1 WB if that helps
-
Thanks Cammy .. I have a few old cables and PC's with SIO ports and I like the Regular Classic WB that much help would be great :afro:
@ Retro yep in the Vally man

Agreed. You've done some great work on those Classic Workbench installs Cammy.
Wizard and I have even managed to get ClassicWB 3.x running to a large extent on teh Chameleon64 and FPGA Aracde. The 68020 softcore still needs some work. I ahve the ClaasicWB Lite working great though with just a couple of things disabled.

Just make the effort and set up those eBay and PayPal accounts. It's not going to cost you any money and the hardware is well worth it. :-)
I have a soft spot for the A2000 as it was my first Amiga way back in the 80s and it still kicks ass.
-
I guess but I don't have an abundance of $ and really don't like the biding experience ... seen way to much stuff go through the roof! I'm prepared to pay what people wont for there stuff though with biding or auctions :hammer: .... nah :( sory to sound crap about it.

So Lunithy, let us know, did Cammy get your 2000 back up and running with a new OS? Hopefully you've got a copy of Workbench now to match your Rom ?

Not yet a disc had error's but got the ROM switch workin OK thanks to Rebel-CD32 then couldn't work out how to get the A2091 to see both the HD and Rebel's flash drive on the day but worked that out when Cammy pointed out the JUN jumper settings, and the Key board did not want to work  but that should get sorted out :)
-
@Gertsy: Agreed! :D
I've been following your adventures and feel like we are at a cliffhanger!
- Will Cammy make it in time?
- Will Lunithy boot off his Hard Drive?
- WHAT GAME WILL HE PLAY FIRST!?!?!?
- Tune in next time true believers! SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT CHANNEL!

Hi, you must be the one cammy mentioned .i guess you guys are using the scsi card reader rebels got from me? i had told her to turn on LUNS (Logical Unit Numbers) on the 2091 to see all the card reader slots. Hopefully you guys get it all working! keep us posted.

I'm glad that LUN jumper worked! I am so sorry the keyboard didn't work for you, I will bring my other one down next time. But until then I had an idea, I have to use this program on my A600 because its 6,Y,H, and N keys don't work. It's an on-screen keyboard that should help you to do some basic typing in Workbench, like renaming files or drives at least. It's called Mouseki and it opens on its own screen, so you can flip it in front of the screen you're using, or quickly drag it up and down when you need it. Just copy these files onto your hard drive, and use LHA to extract them, copy the font and its drawer into your Fonts drawer on the root drive, and I guess you can copy Mouseki to the Tools drawer. To make it easy to get to, click on it and select "Leave out" from the Icon menu.
Mouseki - http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/Mouseki_1-13
LHA - http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/lha_68k
You probably have LHA already in the C drawer in Gertsy's old stuff, so you could copy that to your boot partition's C drawer first, but this version I linked to is the very newest version. Hopefully there is a copy of Directory Opus or something in there too, because you'll need a GUI to extract these LHA files before you can use Mouseki for keyboard input! Oh dear...
At least you should have plenty of games to try amongst those ones I lent you, it might be fun to set up an A500 on the big TV for floppy games and the A2000 on the bench for productive/creative stuff. The S-Video adapter is one of the older models that http://www.AmigaManiac.com makes and sells and they produce a very crisp image on the TV provided you have a good S-Video cable, but the one I lent you isn't a very good quality cable so if you have one of your own it might work better.
I'm sorry I couldn't talk much the other night, but I'm glad you and Rebel got along, we'll all have to hang out again soon.
-
Hey Cammy no need to feel sory about that Key board as it appears to work fine until you bump the cable or reset from the key board:furious: but I have to hold the plug in the socket for it to work and after removing the M board I can see the little plates inside the port are spread to far apart and pushed back at uneven depths so looks to me like the your 2000 Key board is fine and I'll just have to fix the port :)
-
Lunithy, that keyboard problem can happen when the pins become corroded but its usually a cable issue with the A2000 keyboard cable near the plug that causes the problem you're describing. The keyboard port shold look like the attached photo. The bottom pins stick out more than the top. If the pins are slipping back or splitting some hot glue at the back might hold them. Some RP7/WD40 on the contacts and hopefully that problem is licked.
Don't give up.!
Not sure what was on that HD. I think I might have put a vanilla system backup incase I needed it. Hopefully nothing incriminating there. If there is then I obviously got the HD from someone else and it's their stuff.
