News from Hans via amigaworld.net
I am pleased to announce the first release of GfxBench2D (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/).
GfxBench2D is:
- A benchmarking tool for 2D graphics (download (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Downloads/))
- A web-app for displaying results uploaded by the benchmarking tool
- An opportunity to see some real data on graphics card performance for a wide range of graphics cards and systems
System Requirements (for the benchmarking tool):
- AmigaOS 4.x
- A truecolour capable graphics card (minimum 16-bit)
Some interesting results (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/) are already available. For example, the Radeon X1950 pro (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Result/37) is the current king of 2D. It is the last high performance card to include a dedicated 2D blitter unit, and it shows. Some motivation for upgrading to a PCI-express capable AmigaOS machine can be found here (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Result/9) and here (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Result/1). Or maybe you might like to compare a Radeon (Mobility) 4300 PCIe (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Result/8) card to a Radeon HD 4350 PCI in an A1-XE (http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/Result/6).

Why not say that it's only for OS4 to avoid wasting everyone's time?

Or better yet, for wealthy Amiga users only. Screw us poor Mac using MorphOS users. ;)

its says its for AmigaOS 4.x right there in the news post.

I have designed GfxBench2D with multiple platforms in mind. The result submission API already supports it even though the server still needs a bit more work. Any MorphOS dev who is interested in porting the GfxBench2D tool should contact me.
