Title: Nerd vocabulary shoehorned into legal document
Post by: motorollin on June 16, 2011, 07:32:50 PM
I wrote a review report for a child's Statement of Special Educational Needs today. One of his difficulties is a speech process called "gliding", which causes the sound "r" to be produced as "w". The example I chose to give in the report was worded as follows:

Quote
xxxxx continues to struggle to produce the sound "r", which is realised as "w". For example, the word 'root' would be produced by xxxxx as 'woot'.

Probably won't mean much to the people who will actually read it, but I got a little nerdy kick out of it ;)

You realise you're a nerd when you're in an Indian restaurant, and you see Nan bread on the menu, the first thing you think is that there was a "Not a number" error while generating the menu list.

In that case I've been a nerd for many, many years. I always used to smile when I saw car number plates with computer acronyms in them

Actually I did consider it, but it really is a legal document so I had to make it clear and legible :rtfm:

Regarding "should of", I refer you simply to the following:

Microsoft's BPOS always makes me chuckle.  Whoever came up with that name must've had a beef with management, or an excellent sense of humour.
