Title: Excelsior! BBS Release
Post by: LamboJay on June 10, 2011, 01:17:58 PM
I'd like to let everyone know about a new web site I've set up. http://www.excelsiorbbs.com
E! was one of the big commercial bbs systems available for the Amiga with hundreds of registered sysops from around the world.
The site is up mainly for the sake of nostalgia and as a history of E! for anyone who may be interested.

It's taken a lot of effort to recover files from old, crashed hard drives. What I've recovered is now available for download.
This includes:

It includes the full bbs along with Trapdoor fidonet mailer, Installer and Programmers Pack.

The software is being made available free to anyone who wants it. The only thing I ask is that you download it directly from the official web site and not re-distribute it.

If you were a sysop, always wanted to be one or just want to play around. Download E! and give it a try.

Questions, comments or ideas are always welcome. Post here, send a pm or use the contact form on the E! site.

Still working on getting parts of the site up and running but wanted to let everyone know. Everything should be there within the next day or two.

Thanks and Enjoy.

@LamboJay
Interesting news, this has me wondering if I can setup one of my Minimigs as a web BBS,
but as it only has one serial port and no way to add an ethernet adapter I would need to change it through a second computer or adapter of some sort.

Anyway thanks for the hard work I have lots of good memories of using bbs's from my A500 in the early 90's before I got internet access in 95 or so at Uni and later at home from my PC.

Thanks for the feedback guys and enjoy the software.

@Dwyloc: I'm not to familiar with the minimig, but if it has a serial port, it should work just fine. Lack of Ethernet is a bummer though. Let me know how you make out.

Thanks for your contribution. I personally find it quite hard to keep up with blog posting.:afro:

Wonderful!

I used to run an E! BBS back in the days and I've been thinking about starting it up again through telnet and this gave me inspiration again!

I used to run Excelsior! back in the 90s also after MEBBSNet support was dropped.  Tried accessing my data from the old drives but couldn't get them to come up.  The links at the website are no longer working.  Does anyone know where the software can be downloaded now?  I have sent an email the to the owner of the software but haven't heard back yet.  I am going to set up a BBS on my A1200 soon, not sure what software I'm going to use yet.

Thanks.
Tim
