Title: Amiga 2000 Harddrive problem

I bought  a amiga 2000 from a garage sale and today while converting
adf files to disk i did not change the destination to dfo and left it on dho
so now my harddrive is not working.  I do not have any install disks .
All i have is a manual for a GVP impact series 2 user guide .
Is there anywhere where i can get the install disks or another option on getting this working again .

I  went through everything that came with this and found the install disk in the middle of an Amiga Basic book !
Thanks to everyone who responded .. Now i am off to look for 3.1 roms on Ebay

Why would your HD not be working if you copied some adf's to it by mistake, makes no sense as they are only files... :confused:

I was doing file to disk and i had the dho selected as destination
and i got an error but hit continue and it messed up the hard drive so now when i boot i get an error message not a dos disk in unit 0.
I tried booting from a workbench disk i have but then i do not see the drive.
the controller card is a  gvp hardcard a2000-hc2

Sounds like you have somehow (dunno how though) overwritten the HDs RDB block or corrupted the HDs file info blocks structure... :(

Don't suppose you have your RDB saved so you can restore it easily again... :)

If not it looks like you're going to have to re-format and maybe even repartition your HD again... :(

Curious to know though, what where you using and what do you mean by "I was doing "file to disk"... :confused:

When copying adf's to an HD all you do is copy them with the copy command or using something like DOpus or Dirwork... :)

Hi,

I believe you are going to have to use HDInstall and redo the hard drive, which means a repartition and reformat. Sorry to say. Check on your WBdisk for a HDtoolbox. If not you might want to go to AmigaKit and buy an OS.

Nothing is saved .. I transfered the adf from my pc to the hard drive on the Amiga with Amiga explorer then  i was writing them back to disk from the amiga and wrote it to the dho instead of dfo and screwed it up.
If someone can tell me how to reformat this without having the disk
or where i can buy them .

Ahh... I see... :)

First of all I've never came across someone managing to write the adfs directly to an HD's blocks (wouldn't have thought it was possible) and by the sound of it, if you have managed to do this then I'm betting you've overwritten the HD's RDB Blocks... :(

Whatever the case it looks very much like your going to have to ReInstall your HD like Smerf has said... :(

You'll need to google around and try and get hold of the Workbench Disks and in particular the Install disk, eBay or someone here is about your only option of getting these as AmigaKit don't sell them... :(

Hopefully someone here will be able to supply you with a Workbench disk set but without them you up a creek without a paddle for now... sorry... :(

If you can provide your location, it's possible a local user can loan you some boot disks.

I 'm in Ballston Spa NY .. Little town just outside of Saratoga Springs .
I would gladly pay anyone for a loan or sell me the disks i need .
I believe i have kickstart ver 34.5

That's Kickstart 1.3 then.

I'm afraid I'm on a business trip until the 16th.  If you don't have any luck finding help before then just PM me and I'll see if I can make a copy of my really old WB1.3 disks and send them to you in the mail.  It's been years since I ran WB1.3 on an A2000's hard drive.  I think it was just a case of prep and format the hard drive, copy the contents of the WB disks over and use the supplied hard drive startup-sequence instead of the one meant for the floppy.

If you have a chance, seriously consider getting some 3.1 ROMS.

@everybody,

I really can't see how kickstart 1.3 or workbench 1.3 is going to help him, none of them have HD install programs. If I remember right when I had my A2000 I had to use Ver 2.04 to do the HD thing. Correct me if I am wrong.

I had WB1.3 booting quite nicely on my A2000 using a CBM SCSI card.  I wouldn't be surprised to find that when he boots from the floppy disk then his NDOS hard drive icon will appear and he can click on it, format it and then copy his workbench files over.

I guess a bootable disk with DOPUS4 on it might come in handy too. although "copy df0: dh0: all" should be fine from CLI and then delete the floppy startup-sequence and rename the hard drive one.
