Title: 5 Hour Energy Drink
Post by: ChaosLord on June 03, 2011, 12:02:23 PM
Does anyone have any opinions on this?

It is called "5 hour energy" and is sold in very small 2 ounce bottles.  It sure is expensive.

I've lived off them on occasion (finals week springs to mind).  Better than a RockStar or a Red Bull.  It's mostly B vitamins and caffeine, nothing a good multivit a cuppa joe and a workout in the morning on't give you :D

The reason I ask is because I have been unconscious most of the last 2 weeks.  I tried loading up on caffeine and can still barely keep my eyes open now...

That's no good!  The things I used to do to stay awake on fireguard or late night shift at the PIHA:

1.  Do some pushups.
2.  Drink water.
3.  have a nose hair pulling contest.

I am not allowed :(

2.  Drink water.
I drink a lot of water all the time.  I am sort of a hydrophiliac.

One thing I have found is that when I take a standard multivitamin (Equate Multivitamin, compare to Centrum) 3 times a day every single day then I get energy and can stay awake for up to 12 hours at a time.  But the bottle says take 1 a day.  I am afraid that taking a triple dose over a long period of time would make me overdose on one of the minerals or vitamins.  So I donno what to do.

Being in Oregon, during the winter months I take a double to triple dose of vitamin D because of the light levels.    The recommended amounts of vitamins are the baseline for prevention of vitamin deficiency related disease.  If you drink tons of water taking a triple multi will most likely make your pee expensive, but i doubt it will make you OD.  I am no doctor, YMMV.

Better eat soup or stock instead. In the desert people take salt pills to prevent dehydration.

There is similar stuff sold here in the UK... :)

It all comes under one category "Marketing BullShit"... ;)

Don't waste your money on crap like that, it's all Marketing and no substance, in fact the exact opposite is true of these products in that you are paying through the nose for Marketing hype and some extra sugar/glucose... :(

You'd be much better buying yourself some pure fresh fruit juice (not concentrate) if you need a pick me up and maybe a wee visit to the doc for a check up might be in order... :)

You sound just like my sister & brother-in-law in Portland...

They're forever on at me to take Vitamin D and a whole load of others for the same reasons... :)

Makes me wonder how the Scottish race has survived all this time with not taking our vitamins, think 30 odd years of living in the US has brainwashed me sister... ;)

Gawd... the Drug store owners round your way must be the richest people in town... :D

Just remember too much salt can be VERY bad for you and potato chips cooked in oil/fat and coated in salt is one of the least healthy ways to get your salt intake (all be it enjoyable)... ;)

Don't get me started on that one... (I argue enough about that with the sister & brother-in-law on that subject)...

Let's just say until folks in the states wake up and realise that a proper National Health Service is what you folks need (like most of Europe) then like I tell the sister it's no-ones fault but her own if they "can't afford to be ill"... ;)

PS:Obama is good for you, you just don't realise it yet... :)

One salt is certainly like the other. Not sure how your body reacts to salty potato chips, but I would try a very balanced diet of old fashioned cooked potatoes, beans or Brussels sprouts and a small t-bone or steak, if I were you.
And a visit to a doctor if nothing helps (after 1~2 weeks) . You might have diabetes if you're that tired and thirsty.

Ever hear the term "Mad as a Scotsman?" :D

It's easy - back in the day you just went nuts or a little bonkers during winter.  The Swedes and such put evergreens in their houses because they were afraid the sun would never come back.  :D

I know you are poking fun, Speel, but there IS socialized medecine in the US.

You just have to be either:

A.  In the Military.

or

B.  Old as S*** and about to kack anyways.

Otherwise, there is the best medical system in the WORLD as long as you can afford to buy in (which most can't).  Just do the Republican thing and DON'T GET SICK!!!  :D
