Title: A2000 ISA Slot modofication
Post by: amigara on May 28, 2011, 07:26:13 AM
Can anyone point me to where I can read on the solder modifications required to enable 16-bit ISA slots for use with my bridgeboard ?

?????

If your bridgeboard plugs into both Zorro and the inline-ISA slot the 2nd 16bit-ISA slot will be enabled (and so will be the 2 8bit ones).

If you want to transform the 2 8bits into 16bits you just have to find some 34(?)pin slots and solder them in.

I am looking for the instructions to convert to 16-bit.

Instructions:

1) solder in 16-bit connector
2) play

That's it! :)

Depending on your particular motherboard, the holes for the 16 bit extensions may be solder filled. In that case you'll need to open them up first. Either solder wick or a vacuum solder sucker- i'd use the latter. Then just solder in the connector.

If you can find one old enough, a scrap pc motherboard is a good source for the connector. But you can probably still buy them.

Firstly if you have a A2088 bridgeboard its got an 8bit CPU on it so you cant make it 16 bit
If its a A2286 or similar then it will be 16bit.

What bridgeboard have you got?

I have soldered the extra 16 bit extensions into two of my a2000.   This is actually a fairly easy if you know how to properly wick solder, but if if you are unsure just have someone you trust do it. the heat from the solder gun can damage your nmos and cmos chips further be careful not to use too much solder.

probaby be a good idea to get good old 60/40 rosin core solder instead of that lead-free junk.
