oh, I meant, is it because there are Amiga drivers only for voodoo cards?
I presume that nowadays there are lot more powerful PCI graphic cards than 3dfx?

It's the driver situation. S3 cards are weak sauce (I dunno, maybe they're OK comparatively for the Amiga), nVidia cards are pretty much closed-source on the drivers, so that leaves Voodoo cards or ATI, and I don't know that there are drivers for classic Amigas for the ATI chips.
So that leaves either the old old old Zorro cards, or s3, or 3dfx.

exactly. there are drivers for old radeons too. though hardware 3d support is restricted to os4. and beyond even os4 if there even are some drivers, they do not support 3d hw acceleration currently.

People like the Voodoo 3 because it has AmigaOS 3.x drivers and AmigaOS 4.X drivers for 2D and 3D (Warp3D). It also has 16MB of RAM in the Voodoo 3, and 32MB of RAM in the 4 and 5.
They are also relatively cheap. Getting harder to find, though.
