Title: See, we're not the only ones!
Post by: Matt_H on May 24, 2011, 05:34:54 PM
Look at all the animosity being thrown at OS/2! (http://www.osnews.com/comments/24770)

All the classics are there: overpriced, terrible hardware support, no software, no point in the modern world, let it die, plain ol' trolling, harassing the moderators, etc.

It's like looking in a mirror :/

I would say not so much a mirror. Their situation in many aspects is far better than ours:

They still have a viable and inexpensive hardware platform
They are unified
They have business customers
They have far more users and developers than we have
They already have a working OpenOffice and Firefox between other ports
They have a company which drives its OS, which is semi-serious

So still, they are in some aspects, in a far better position than we do. :)

But what they don't have is this nice and wonderful Amiga OS :D

Had a quick look, seems pretty timid to be honest and I've no idea what they're arguing over but I might just join up to show them how to argue erm... debate such things properly... :)

I think we're about even when it comes to charging a fortune for software barely anyone wants.

I'm actually considering buying eComstation 2.1, it's more useful than OS4. ;)

IIRC, IBM licenced Amiga technology from Commodore for use in OS/2.

Franko is on my ignore list, the only person in over 11 years to get that accolade.  Only ever see his drivel when someone quotes it :)

Pity you can't read this drivel to see how proud I am of this incredible achievement... :)

In some ways OS/2 Warp is superior to MoS and AOS4. And well AROS is free so you get your moneys worth lol

OS/2 is not that far off WB/KS 3.0 really. The multitasking is far superior to even Windows XP (try having 99% CPU load on your Windows machine AND actually trying to do some work as is normal for multitasking OS....haha never mind at least you tried. Have a nice cup of tea and wait for it to go down to 25% CPU load)

That's more of a process priority issue than anything else.
My Win XP x64 box runs at 100% constantly, and I haven't had any problems with the system being non-responsive, as long as the GUI/Basic system has a higher priority than boinc.

I never seen a PC windows running a good responsive GUI, not in my house, not in university, not on any pc shop, not on any Friend PC.....Maybe your definition of responsiveness is not the same as mine and  you settle for little
