Hi guys.
First off, I reckon this question has been asked a thousand times before
on this forum, so my apologies if I am asking this old question one time too many... also sorry if this post is in the wrong section.
But,
I just recovered my old Commodore Amiga 1000 from my mothers basement, after about 15 years in solitary confinement. What a pleasure it was to see this old machine again - it still works! :) But what a disappointment it was to find out that my mom had thrown away all my games, programs and even my monitor (CM8833)
So, here is my question/problem;
I need a kickstart disk, I think it is compatible with v1.1 to 1.3 (?)
But where in the world today can I get my hands on such old firmware?
Oh, and is there any difference in regional versions or other important
things I should be aware of in this new found quest to reanimate my
best childhood friend ?
If anyone could help out or just give some pointers
I would be grateful..

Hello and welcome!
your best bet, apart from some lovely person here pm'ing you with a copy, is to go to the English Amiga Board here and do a request for app:
http://eab.abime.net/index.php
where they are less strict about issues surrounding such things.
Lately here, there has been a lot of nasty sentiment and childish fighting over 30 year old copyright and such.
Without a monitor, you'll need to source either a monitor, an older TV with component in, or a VGA adapter such as the Indivision line.
Being a recent returnee myself, I can tell you that it is really easy to get disheartened by the attitudes you will find in what passes for the Amiga community today. Take heart - there are a lot more good eggs that make up for the rotten ones.
Good Luck!

Thanks!
I will take note of that then, and give it a try!
Yeah, I noticed that some of these kickstart roms are still under copyright.
But then it should also be possible to buy it somewhere ?
I was not asking anyone to do something illegal - of any sorts -
I managed to hook up my A1000 via a cable which ends in a Scart stick into
an old Tube tv. So, it works fine. Now its just asking for that Kickstart!
I know, its like that on all forums today, "elite" minded with a lot of flaming,
but I am not easily discourage by this.
Again, thanks for your reply!

Hi,
I may have my original Kickstart disk set in one of my Amiga boxes. I have Kickstart 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 in my system disks box. I could make you a copy and send it to you since I need another location to store my backups, you know just in case of fire or something like that, this way if something happens to my original disks I can call you and get a backup of them. PM me and I will see about drawing up the contract.

You'll want the 1.3 kickstart if you can get one, as its a bit more fully featured.
NTSC vs PAL issues for software I guess. You mention scart so I am guessing you are in Europe? If so, most software will work great on your machine.
What RAM is in the machine? At the original 256k, you'll be extremely limited. 512 will help but a meg will work for most OCS software and games.
I'd also scavenge for a spare floppy drive if you can find one :)

Yes, I am from the EU. just bought a small 14" inch tv which reminisce a bit on the original monitor, so it both works and looks great. So there is no great issue on PAL and NTSC software, if for instance I load a NTSC kickstart on a PAL machine?
Its the original model, with all the signatures inside and it has installed the 256 cartrige ram expansion. I have an external disk drive as well, but cant test if it is still working, not original Commodore Hardware so I don´t have high exceptions for this to work.
Thanks for the pointers !

By kickstart 1.2 it auto detected pal/ntsc automatically.
There should be plenty of real disks floating around as they shipped them with a500's for some reason.

Ok. I´ll take note of that.
Yeah, there should be a lot of these disks about,
but they are kind of hard to find! or so it seems....

He is!!
See, its not that bad...
:)

If, for some odd reason, all else fails I can mail a copy of an NTSC 1.3 kickstart disk, and a workbench 1.3.3 disk if you need it.
My 1.2 seems to have finally died....

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions and offers!
I am beginning to think it possible to get one of these disks.
So preferably versions 1.2 to 1.3
So anyone knows if 1.3 also could be used crossed regions ?
:)
