re: Amiga OS4.1 gemRB - bioware infinite engine emulator
this emulator engine requires os4.1 --
does anyone know if getting the os4.1 update will allow the emulator to run on classic Amiga systems (1200 ppc)?
I want to know if upgrading to os4.1 makes the classic os environment compatible for any software that required os4.1 in the next generation sam440 hardware.
it would be nice to play baldurs gate and icewind dale on my amiga.

Where do you get this emulator and the games to run on it? If you can supply that to me legally I can give it a try on my A4000 with AmigaOS 4.1 Classic.

I believe that you can get the gemrb amiga os4.1 download from:
http://www.amigasoft.net/pages/games/gemrb.asp
about getting one of the games, though, I have them retail, but in order for you to get them legally to run, they could only be gotten through someplace like amazon or ebay. I do not think they are considered "abandon" software yet, and I think downloading them would take a long time. I am curious to see if it runs on your system though.
if you do not mind, what other features did you notice with the upgrade? I am curious in upgrading, but the list of new features did not seem that impressive to me - some of them were for support of hardware which my 1200 tower system does not have.

Well probably the biggest feature for you (if you have that BVision gfx card) is the Warp3D hardware accelerated driver. Also the fact you can run all the AmigaOS 4.1 specific software (TuneNet comes to mind), and there is lots of others.
We've improved support for the Mediator boards adding PCI sound card ESS Solo-1, PCI SATA cards based on the Silicon image 3112, 3114, and 3512 chipsets, and Radeon support. I don't think you have a Mediator, though.
Of course you get all the AmigaOS 4.1 features up to and inclusive of Update 2. You will also get Update 3 free when that is available.
Here is a link to the full press release with all the features (we forgot to mention SATA support in the press release...oops :)

A Blizzard PPC scsi driver is planned, hopefully for a later update.
