Title: Subway USB
Post by: swift240 on May 20, 2011, 09:42:52 PM
Hi every one,
Hmmmm ok, thinking of getting a Subway USB controller for my A1200.
I am using OS3.1 with an Apollo Turbo 030/40 32meg Fastram.

For those out there who uses the Subway USB has it been worthwhile?
Have you been able to run much?
How reliable is it?

TIA,

Mike.

Ooo, Ooo, I got this one!
IT IS AWESOME! It's easy to setup if you know a couple of CLI commands to get the Flash device working first to install the latest software, unless you already have a CD attached. It's the single best thing I've ever purchaed besides ASIM-CDFS! :)

If you buy it, let me know if you need any help.....

Ok so it all looks pretty good then so far.
Well I am thinking of getting it from AmigaKit UK.

The main thing I want it for is USB Ethernet, USB Epson SX415 printer, and USB pens.

And is it possible to get a sound card via USB?

Mike.

It works, but on the 030 its gonna be slowwwwww. And I'm sure the more stuff you add on it will take more CPU cycles.

make sure your A1200 has clock ports!. Some of them were made with the pins on the wrong side. My last two A1200 motherboards were like this....

To me other than HDs and an 060 board it's the best bit of kit you can add to an A1200... :)

If you want to easily transfer data between one machine and the next or an Amiga & PC or MAC then the use of any type of memory card even with the cheapest multicard reader/ writer is a breeze and much better than those compact flash "HD" thingies... :)

You can easily hook up digital camaras, MP3 devices and basically any storage medium that uses USB with ease, there are lots of other stuff you can use it for (mice etc...) but for my own use and the ease of which it does it ie: data transfer then it's worth every penny and I would be without it... :)

Yes, there are USB sound cards. They will not work on a Subway because the Subway does not support isochronous transfers which the USB audio class requires.

Hi,

Make sure you read the directions, look at the illustrations very carefully, before putting it on. If you miss by one pin, then you cannot only destroy you subway, but you could also destroy your A1200. In other words don't get in a hurry to put it in and try it out, it could lead to disaster. This I know from experience. When the smoke gets away from your electrical components, the electrical item quits working.

Next to an accelerator, subway is the best upgrade for the A1200.

I have used it with HDs, CDROMs, Mice, memory sticks, etc.

Subway is very reliable provided having the Poseidon stack active does not interfere with the program. Many whdload games and such will not work with Subway active.

I have never noticed it causing any incompatibility when not active. I guess most stuff does not go muck about with the clockport...

and here is a picture of a rabbit with a pancake on its head....

the delfina would prohibit you from using subway as they both need the clockport.

Hi Smerf... :)

Thought that was down to the dreaded mistake you made when you tried to plug a Snickers bar in instead... :)

Cheers

Franko

PS: It's on you're napper this time so don't pour hot maple syrup on it.... :D
