Title: FPGA Replay Arcade Ideas for other Daughterboards
Post by: digiflip on May 18, 2011, 07:39:21 PM
Or would like a daughterboard for example with ide or sata ports for fpga arcade and maybe even pci slots?

Sorry to be asking this, but: how come ? Why not just pick up a standard Mini ITX board where you've got all that crap already :)

You'd probably need drivers for them.  Who would write those?  Are you planning to run AROS or OS 3.9 on them?

well there is going to be usb so might be able to connect stuff externally via usb, like dvdrom etc

@digiflip:
hate to rain on your parade, but how about not to ask additional (non trivial) features from a product that has not even been released yet? if fpga replay (with yaqubes expansion)doesnt satisfy your needs go for natami as soon as it is available. i want to see both out in the wild as soon as possible and for affordable price. the projects look complementary i dont know why to modify them to become concurrent?

I dont think ill be buying A Natami after how people treated me on there forums not interested in discussion( just shout you down or delete your posts). Like for them it's Natami or nothing for Amiga like computers. Plus I think the prices will be too steep, when they get announced for Natami. I think it will not be within my budget ie that I am prepared to pay for a retro computer.

Its going to be exciting year though. If Clone-A, FPGA Arcade and Natami would be released this year.

it would be better for you to judge your choices on features not on resentiments. plus it looks like you are demanding features without wanting to pay for them. a fpga arcade with a 060 daughterboard +usb +ide(or sata) +pci might end up in the same price range like natami, whatever it will be. make up your mind.

Dude.. FPGA Replay is a re-implementation so any drivers are already written..

As for extensions, another FPGA would enable even more cool stuff ;)

Im definitely buying fpga arcade when Available, im not demanding those features. THese  are things that perhabs might become available like 1 or 2 years on a new fpga arcade as per say fpga arcade 2 like.

If you are referring to USB, there are separate device drivers for Subway and Deneb that I know of, but I would imagine that a new device driver will need to be written for the daughterboard of the Replay to implement the 3 USB ports on it so they can use Posieden and/or Annais  (spelling?).  Unless either the Deneb or Subway driver would work for the USB ports of the Replay daughterboard, but I doubt that as they are commercial products and aren't likely to give away their device drivers.

As for your other comments about the possibility of future expansions, or revisions of the Replay board, or it's daughterboards, that is most likely a certainty, that there will be more improvements and additional, or upgraded expansion capabilities.  The only limit is MikeJ's, or Jakub's imagination.

The only limitation is our own imagination. And resources to design and order PCBs. The hard parts on the FPGA Replay is the DDR interface and the BGA soldering.
