Title: 256kx1 RAM speed questions...
Post by: save2600 on May 16, 2011, 11:36:28 PM
Re: the A1000 Microbotics Starboard RAM and the Expansion Technologies Escort 2 RAM board... both had and call for 150ns chips. Looking online, the documentation always mentions the same, but never faster. Well, I've got about 100 pieces of 70ns RAM coming that I wanted to install in the blown Microbotics board. Is there going to be contention with the PAL chips or other logic on these boards? I know PAL's can be sensitive to speed/timing.

Will the RAM be "super" fast, not work well or not work at all you think?

Your good to go, 150ns or faster ram is always ok if its equal to or faster than what the board recommends. You can always have faster ram than the recommended ram,but generally not slower. You will likely see no speed increase on that board.
If the price is the same, always opt for the fastest you can get.

Thanks Mechy, good to know! Yeah, the price was right. $4.95 shipped for 100 pieces :)
