Did you at any time sell your Amiga and then regret it having to buy another at some time?
I did years ago and never again, that was a bit mistake.
Mike.
-
I've sold a few machines over the years but only real regret was selling my A1200T with BPPC+BV combo.
-
I've sold many Amigas, the only one I miss is the 3000T, though I don't regret selling it.
-
Yes, definitely. I sold my first Amiga in 2002 and didn't get back into the platform until 2010...gah, what I could have been doing in that time...
-
Yes and no...
At the time, I needed to get a better PC for work.
If I had the money to "add" a better PC AND keep the Amiga, that would have been nice. ;-)
But as it was, life/work has been pretty good, so I don't regret the choice.
I regret that I "had" to make that choice a bit, but that is the way of choices. ;-)

Only machine I ever sold that I sometimes wish I hadn't was my A4000, regret... not really as it would have only sat around for nostalgia's sake and probably never got used again... :)
-
I've bought, sold, traded and reclaimed so many Amiga's throughout the years that I've hardly ever been without. The only thing I really regret Amiga wise is having gotten away from the platform in the early 90's. I had an A1200 with an external HD at the time, but the thing was something of a money pit back then and loaded, more capable PC's were so much cheaper. In retrospect, it would have been nice to have stuck with the Amiga throughout the 90's. I might have had a better appreciation for OS3.5, OS3.9 and the computers capabilities comparatively.
Didn't really get back into Amiga until about 2000, when I landed (2) A1200's for $80 shipped. One even had an 030 accelerator card and a hard drive chock full of WHDLoad stuff which totally got me back into 'em :)
The only system I never reclaimed though was a CD32. Would be nice to have one of those again someday.
-
Yeah,
many times, always buy and then sold..
Sometimes a say as joke, "the Amigas does not like me but they like of my"..
-
I regret selling my BPPC for £250 a few years ago.
If you are reading this Steven then I'd love to buy it back from you if you aren't using it, as I really want to develop some stuff for OS4.1.

aaaarggghhhh can't read !!! i'm selling mine at this moment ... :(

You won't regret it! (provided you get a good price for it.)
-
I received a huge tax bill and very reluctantly had to sell my cherished CSPPC card to help towards paying it off. It sold and a week later I get a suspect email from the buyer complaining the card was "dusty" and wasn't what he was expecting for the price etc, and wanted to return it in exchange for a refund.
Anyway my suspicions were confirmed when card arrived back completely fried, the SCSI port was physically damaged, and he even managed to somehow kill the PPC fan for good measure.
So it wasn't a great idea selling my CSPPC, at the end of the day it didn't pay a penny off my tax bill, and my once flawlessly running PPC card was reduced to scrap. :(

Please tell us the name of the ebayer then I can avoid him.

Indeed!

So far, I've managed to avoid selling any of my Amiga machines. I came very close to selling my main A1200T (complete with BPPC and BVision) back in 2002 during what was a financially difficult time. I'm glad I didn't - building it had been a labour of love and an expensive one at that. It is still running now.

I never sold any of my Amigas (I own only 2).
I regretted selling my Commodore C 116 and bought one on eBay later.
And I think I regret not having bought an AGA Amiga, when they were still hot.
-
I've never sold any of my Amiga's and seem to keep buying more! (Pick up my 4th A1200 tomorrow!)
But I do regret selling my original C64 :( - I gave it to my stepsister when I got my A500, and when she was done with it, she dumped it and didn't offer it to me back! I was soooo pissed! Boxed......hundreds of games, mouse pack, new PSU....ARGH the pain!
I also regret getting rid of my entire obsolete computer collection back in 2001 while space and money was a big problem. I owned quite a lot of systems, but it was the add ons, software and manuals that is the biggest loss *sob*
-
Heh,
I gave away two A4000's and never shed a tear.
...
Must admit they where given to me for free as well and I got completely annoyed with them (I mean, it takes a lot of effort making them "nice" hw and sw wise, and I had and have a tuned A1200 already).
ps. come to think of it, I got an apple pie for one of them

Huh?
Are you an alien?

Not meant as insulting, its just that the land down under is the only place I hear of things happening this crazy. "2 a1200s, a CD32, a CDTV and a CSPPC for free to good home. Local Pickup only in the Perth Area. If feeling generous, will trade for fruit pies."

Hi,
Once when I bought my first Amiga 1200 from someone selling it on ebay, I received a computer so full of dust that it took me almost an hour to vacuum out all of it. Then to top it off the PPC card didn't even work, it was fried probably from all the dust, I mean it was so dusty that at first the fan didn't even work, while I was vacuuming out the fan I accidentally knocked it off the board, but even after it was clean it still didn't work.
let me tell you some people, the only good thing was that he took it back and gave me my money back.

Some years ago, I sold an A2500 (A2630+scandoubler+LCDmonitor), extremely rare in France...I regret!!!! :(

It was a 32 Bit Mistake.
Sold my original 1990 A2000 in 1997. Got one back again in 2007.

Like someone else here, I had to do the PC thing for work. However, I sold my Amiga because I wasn't using it due to that work, not because I had to sell it. I regret that decision for sure.
I had a loaded A3000... 2Mb Chip, 16MB Fast, 1GH HD, ecternal 32X CD ROM, Bernouli 20MB system, all chips upgraded to their latest revisions, no battery damage on the motherboard, and even plunked down over $400 bucks for a Picasso IV - this was back in 1998 when you could still buy them new and dialup was still kicking.
The last thing I did with it was purchased OS 3.5 and RedHat Linux. In fact, I still have the box from OS 3.5 since I couldn't find it when I sold the system. I also kept my US Robotics V.Everything for some reason.
So I finally bought another A3K on ebay about 2 years ago with intentions of getting it back to where I was before. However, it went into the garage and was only dug out this past week. With the help of some people here I got her back up and running (forgot the rule on drive cable hookup) the other day and need to start those overdue upgrades now.
On that note - I'm on the hunt for a Picasso IV (sure that will be very difficult to come by), 16MB Fast Zips, a "pregnant" mouse, floppy bay cover, and expansion bay covers/screws - so if anyone wants to part with them or knows where I can get them (I check ebay daily) let me know.
-
Still have my perfect, unyellowed original A500 I bought from Software Hut many years ago. :) I recently went through it, replaced the fraying keyboard ground strap, installed a Mega Chip, ECS Denise, 3.1 ROM, and a few other little things. Still working flawless alongside its GVP A530 playmate.
I can't recall selling much Amiga gear over the years. Off the top of my head:
Blizzard 1260: DCE model, factory clocked at 60MHz with a real 60MHz CPU. Sold it about 10 years ago along with a DCE internal scandoubler (made money on both), regretted until I got my hands on an 80MHz Apollo sometime later.
CV64/3D+Scandoubler: Great combo. I was amazed at how it transformed my A2000, but the scandoubler was a PITA to get working correctly in the A2K. Sold it after (finally) experiencing the Picasso IV, and set the money aside to get another PIV. :p No regrets.
Pegasos 2 G3: Sold it after less than a year to fund an (at the time) monster PC that I water cooled and overclocked the shillz out of. I don't miss the Pegasos, just an occasional interest to check out how MorphOS has progressed since the 1.3 days. (Or was it 1.4? I can't recall).
That's all I can think of. I do have a few things I'd like to sell or give away one of these days when i find the time.

What's a pregnant mouse? :roflmao:
-
Pregnant Mouse = Original A3000 Mouse. Had flat buttons and a huge hump as opposed to the sleek look of today's mice.

This is interesting. I know lots of people on here sold their miggies in the 1990's and eventually came back into the scene like i did. Exactly how many of us did this and how many of us never left the scene in the first place? I find this really interesting :)
I'd set up a poll but someone has already set one up a while ago and i don't want to ruin it for them. Damn it! :(
-
See my tag.
Nuff said.

Yeah I sold a nice Amiga 1200 setup (paid a lot of money for it initially) and sold it for a third of the amount because I needed the money. Regretted it ever since cause it was stacked with everything and it took me a while to get a replacement. But alas I now have two Amiga 1000s, an Amiga 2000HD, Amiga 3000, Amiga 500 with a midget racer, Amiga 2500, Amiga 4000 and an Amiga CD32 with 24 games, so needless to say I was able to get a new Amiga collection back together (took over four years and still looking for a few more things) and I am happy again:)

The Picasso IV pops up with some regularity on ebay. If you're patient and can wait until winter, you'll even get a great deal on one (typical holiday season).

Yes and with the upcoming next gen classic hardware coming out soon maybe we can expect even lower prices
Fingers crossed :)
-
I regret not building out my 1200 and sticking with it longer back then.
So I got one now, and now Im happy :)

Ok sorry for my stupidity but what "next gen classic hardware" are you referring to? The only stuff I am area of are the AmigaOne systems, the X1000 systems, and the minimig. What have I missed? :)

You Australian?
No, Dutch...and I'm thinking of giving away my spare A1200 and CDTV as well. Haven't decided yet though ;)
-
Sold an A500+ to buy an A1200.
Wished I had the money to keep both in the early days as some games weren't compatible.
WHD later on solved that though.

Aargh!!!
Someday there will be an American with such generosity...
Naah! Who am I kidding?! :roflmao:
-
Yes! An A500 with the red LED which I sold when in dire straights for around £60.
This story has a happy ending since I got it back years later. The only caveats being the loss of the upper shielding and it having been fitted with Kickstart 3.1.
-
I know you're all tired of hearing this from me, but I've never regretted moving away from legacy hardware.
I've got faster, cheaper, better performing hardware with an OS that lets me run old and new applications.

oh jeez, Iggy, beating THAT dead horse again

I wish I had kept all my stuff back in the 90's. Maybe I would have had a Toaster and a Genlock to produce videos.

Of course. Since NG machines represent the only segment of the Amiga community that's growing I can't help it.
MorphOS has almost 2000 registered/licensed users. I'm not sure how many AOS4 users there are, but I'd be willing to bet that numbers at least as large. And AROS, since its free has its growing user base too.
How many legacy machine user can there be when the equipment hasn't been made for a decade and a half? Less each year would be my guess.
The only thing that could reverse that trend is FPGA projects like the Natami and the Replay.

Many more than 2000 would be my guess..

well, franko owns like 1879 of those. Then there's probably a 100 being sold back and forth between ebay resellers, and 21 in common use :)

I regret selling my first Amiga. It was an A500 Plus Cartoon Classics pack with loads of games (most of them copies lol). I had sold it around 1996 to buy a PC.
By 1997 i was regretting it so much so i built a working A500 out of two broken A500s at a shop i was working at. Then i bought a dual kickstart switcher and an A590 hard drive.
I still have that A500 and it still works great including the A590. :)
-
I still have my original Amiga working no problem, plus every bit of Amiga kit I have ever bought. Plus I still have my ZX81 working and still have all the original packaging.. But then I do have an awful lot of computers.
-
I sold my A1200 060, I would like to still have it. I wouldn't mind having a stock A1200 with IDE->CF and a PCMCIA nic card to connect to the PC.
