Episode Title
ART 49 – That Windows Guy
Posted by MobbyG (http://www.amigaz.org/author/admin/)
After a long hiatus, we are back! Well tanned, fit and ready to talk Amiga. And so much has happened, we doubt we could fit it all in a single show. Commodore USA, Hyperion and OS4, as well as the AEon X1000. Where do we begin? How about a change up in the format of things and with a guest?

In this episode, we have a special guest, and former Amiga user who still has a place in his heart for the platform. We invited Paul Thurrott (http://www.winsupersite.com/paul) on the show from Windows Weekly (http://twit.tv/ww), heard on the TWiT.TV (http://twit.tv/) network. Paul also has a blog, the Windows Super Site (http://www.winsupersite.com/). We talk about his experience with the Amiga platform, as well as wax nostalgic. All in all it turned out to be a great episode.

Thank gawd for that... :)
I take it they binned the first attempt at ART 49 when only I turned up, and Barry and Dammy did a no show... :)
It must have been the most boring ART ever as we mostly talked about Curry's and the weather... :)
-
@Franko
That's a question you can ask Rich, the producer of the show.

Best place for it was the bin to be honest... :)
Mind you after listening to the one they've replaced it with then maybe Curry & the weather would have been a wee bit more exiting that some geezer who used to have a miggy and now washes windows or something... :)

Apparently you couldn't find where to begin, since none of it was discussed.
"Lot's of cool stuff going on in the Amiga community...and uh...and we'll talk about that in just a little while."
Erm...you meant in another show?
Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy the shows and this one was no exception. However, I somehow expected from the above quotes that some of these developments would be discussed. *shrug*

Good to see ART back. :)

Have to agree with Number6 on this one. After reading Paul's comments on the new C64, was very interested to hear what else he had to say. Sadly there was nothing more than a brief mention of any "modern" Commodore or Amiga stuff. The "old farts discussing stuff that hasn't been made, whilstwhining about how C= screwed up business wise" sure gets to be old hat.
-
Have to agree with what's being said here after forcing myself to listen to it all the way to the end it was indeed pretty boring... sorry Rich... :(
Maybe you should dig the other one out the bin, at least (despite Barry & Dammy doing a no show) we did talk about CUSA and what's going on right now, or was my Scottish accent just too difficult to understand... :)
PS:Even the stuff about Curry's and the weather now sounds interesting compared to the one I've just listened too... ;)
-
@Franko
Did they initially agree, knowing you would be a guest?

Rich said he tried to contact Barry a few times but never received a reply and I think Dammy declined... :)
There was still hope at the time of recording that they may make an appearance but unfortunately they didn't so it was a wee bit one sided with only me saying what I thought about CUSA... :)
Still as I say the conversations about Curry's and the weather were a tad interesting... :)
-
After listening to it, he was kind of dismissive on all fronts. Plenty of people who can do that. How about interviewing the Natami team or some AROS or MorphOS developers?

Don't know about Dammy, but yeah, C=USA said they wanted to know our "World Opinion". Not sure what that means.. but ok... But no strings, no gags, no "morning show" hijinks. If they want to come on and have a serious conversation, they're welcome to.

Yeah, we should have traded Vindaloos recipes. But that would mean I would have to have one, which I don't. So that would have been kinda pointless as was #49. OK.. I give up! Brain implosion!
In lighter OT news, we're doing Ham Radio stories at the site. Enjoy! I'll be here all week then The Palms on the week of the 15th. Try the veal.

Hey Rich,
How about some product reviews on ART, scene/demo happenings, etc. Pester Haynie for an interview/Q & A session.
-
@Franko
Dammy did declined to come on the show to me in e-mail. I was kind of bummed because I was hoping to have Pro CUSA and Con CUSA opinions on the show. I'm not sure when or if Rich will release that one.

Hey Rich,
How about some product reviews on ART, scene/demo happenings, etc. Pester Haynie for an interview/Q & A session.
I've been trying for years to get Dave on the show. He replied to me once, but I think he has pretty much said all he wants to say about Amiga.
Maybe someone from Hyperion? I'll email Trevor and see if he can help with that.
As for product reviews, gotta have product to review. Budget is non existent. Best I could do is a review of Amiga Forever 2011 and C=64 Forever 2011.

Agreed - and we try to do them when we can. Gosh - we'd kill for folks to tip us off on news and happenings as well. Please just PM me or something if that is easy...anything really on topic we will probably mention it/ check it out.
If you'd like to be on the show and talk about something you are doing, think you can contribute, like to help us with audio post-production (ie. finding odd and embarrassing slip-ups, etc.), or are a developer of the latest snake game for instance... you are most certainly welcome to reach out to us.
Haynie... ah yes. We have tried several times. In fact, when Rich and I first started the show were kicking around guest ideas to bring on, I am pretty sure he was one of the first few..if not the first we tried to get on. Mainly because he seems rather approachable - but I am afraid I sort of gave up. But I got a LinkedIn connection out of it at least. :) Go figure.
Thanks for listening and everyone's comments. It helps.

ART has lots of potential. I always listen to it, but I was disappointed by the present show. IMHO, not too exciting for Amiga enthusiasts to hear about how Amiga used to be so cool but does not and cannot really amount to anything today. (I'm paraphrasing.)
Yes, it's a niche, but there is so much great stuff going on with Amiga on multiple fronts. Maybe devote ART time and efforts there.

By the sounds of that Barry has his sights set on world domination more like it, how can you have no gags as it's now officially a Mickey Mouse set up... :)

Ahh, but I recall you saying you had a friend that made good Vindaloos, you could in true Amiga tradition erm... "borrow" his and swap that... :)
Don't worry about brain implosions it happened to me and both of me are fine... wheeeeeee, I'm a tree, M&Ms are really FBI agents that work for McDonalds :)

Don't worry you've still got two listeners... me... (three on a good day when the other me stops by for a coffee)... :)

+1. I've tried to like it, and do think it has potential, but it seems barely worth tuning in to, no real knowledge of the latest Amiga developments discussed, just a bunch of friends talking. Don't get me wrong, it's great to hear Amiga peeps having fun, just wish there was some substance behind the joviality.
