Title: Catweasel MK4 question about cables
Post by: ChuckT on May 04, 2011, 01:14:28 AM
I bought a 3.5 inch drive for the Catweasel MK4.  What kind of wires do I need to connect it to the computer.

I know the Catweasel MK4 comes with cables but I just want to know before I buy one.

Thank you.

Just a regular floppy drive I think... make sure to check the pins.

I think you have to supply a 3.5 or 5.25 cable & connect to the MK4+ if I recall..other than that the instructions are very good and straight forward. Also be careful if you are going to install the stereo SID chips as the legs on the IC's are quite delicate

I probably won't be buying one with a SID chip.  I just want to copy / archive my old disks and get my old files on a hard drive.  I may go with the UAE (Amiga Emulator).

Once I archive my old files, I would be interesting in selling the Catweasel and possibly my old Amiga power supply, third party disk drive, semi-dead Amiga, etc.

I believe the way forward is new technology so I've identified new chips, different parts, etc., to build a new computer.  I even think that the Minimig might run better and faster if it was put on a different FPGA chip.

I'm buying a surface mount soldering station and hopefully I can find one with a hot nozzel re-work station.  I already bought an LCD to use as a screen until I start programming an FPGA for video.   I found Mouse / VGA / PS2 connectors to breadboard for starting work.

I found a chip with 512KB Flash and 64 KB SRAM.  They also are working on an FPGA built onto the chip and it also has enough pins for an external RAM chip.

It is either that on the Beagle Board.  I'm not counting the NATAMI or Minimig out but I would rather build my own computer and I think it is time for me to clear up some space so maybe I'll depart with my few Amiga books and so forth.
