Title: Zorro or Clockport based audio questions.
Post by: Rodomoc on May 03, 2011, 04:29:27 PM
I am debating an audio solution for my A3000. My main use would be to simply play MP3's and without CPU load or any audio quality problems. I am looking at either USB or Clockport solutions for this. Regarding clockport, I have seen a couple of items from Individual Computers. One is a smallish MP3 only type of decoding device, the other is the Delfina card.

What kind of experience have people had with these type of devices? I have read some other threads here and merely need a more modern opinion, or any comments.

My Amiga is not nearly as powerful as many I see people have. So I am concerned with CPU usage during MP3 playing on my low powered 3000.
(Currently running an Amiga Technologies A3640 rev3.1 accelerator 040-25mhz, standard 16/2MB ram configuration, xsurf ethernet, Subway USB, a GVP Spectrum RTG video card, and Elbox Fast ATA. So a fairly mundane machine. I have buster 7 currently installed. I have an 11 Buster but I think I need to pair it up with a newer SDMAC or something, I forget anymore and just know that what I need is on the rare and expensive side)

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to playing MP3's on my machine.

I have an mp3@64 on a clockport. I can playback mp3s no problem with AmigaAmp.

Pan1k, I was just looking at these mp3@64 units this morning. I'm glad to hear it works! So am I correct in thinking that this unit shows up as an audio device within AHI, and merely selecting it for use is all that is required? Also, was there ever a software change made that eliminated the delay issue encountered very initially in this product's life cycle? Thanks for your reply!

No AHI driver, just install and select the appropriate decoder .device within AmigaAMP or AMPlifier and you're set. Piece of cake.

My understanding is that the Delfina Flipper boards still produce unreliable MP3 playback, but I could be wrong.
