Evening all, been a while but I'm slowly getting back into working on my Amiga projects again,
Anyway - Earlier on today I was trying to get a CD-Rom drive to work on the SCSI Chain of a Warpengine card.
I tried 2 different CD Drives, various cables and termination combinations and settings of the SCSI controller, but every time HDToolbox or HDInst Tools polled the SCSI Bus, the machine would crash and re-boot.
I have also connected a Hard disk as ID0 - this works without issue - but the CD Drive will not, whether the HDD is connected, or not.
My Question is: Is it possible to use CD-Rom drives on the Warpengine - because I'm starting to doubt that it's possible :-)
If it's not possible I'll just use an IDE CD-Rom on the A4000s IDE port.
Thanks in advance for any help :-)
Robert.

I had a CD-ROM and a Zip drive on my WarpEngine 4040.

As always with SCSI: check termination & termpower (JP1)
No need to run HDToolbox or such, just install, setup & mount the CD driver.

Hi Robert,
I had a DVD drive running alongside a hard disk on it before I sold it to you, I'll dig out the drive and check the termination and jumper settings for you. :)

I think the problem he expressed was that just running HDToolbox caused a reset.
I recall having a problem similar when I first got my WarpEngine. I believe I resolved it by putting termination on the accelerator. In the end: termination on the accelerator (the beginning of the cable,) TRMPWR from the hard drive, then termination at the end of the cable past the Zip drive. Also, as I believe has been mentioned in other SCSI trouble threads, applying TRMPWR (or TERMPWR) from multiple devices should not hurt anything.

Actually, only the drive end was terminated - so I've just ordered some passive 50pin terminators so I can put one on before the scsi controller too, as I understand it must be terminated both ends of the chain :-)

Good luck and report back as to how it goes. The WE should have headers for resistor packs next to the socket. If you have packs available, you can do that a little more easily than hanging another position off the board with a terminator. I would think, anyway.

Hi to all - I have come to the conclusion that the 2 CD-Roms I was trying to use may be faulty - as they weren't tested for a long time. The Warpengine has the resistor packs fitted, so with Term-Controller-HDD-Term The Warpengine SCSI works as it should.
So Now I've used an IDE CD-Rom to install OS 3.9 and everything is fine.
Also, just dismantled my Micronik Big tower, as it's a bit rusty. Now wire brushing it down and going to break out the bottom coat of grey primer later on.
Pictures to follow I suspect :-)
