Post by: TheGoose on April 27, 2011, 03:13:04 PM
Is there anybody here who is using one of these?

I bought one along with the Subway USB controller for my A500. 1st thing is that the clockport sits a tad too high and the keyboard hits the front edge after installation. Since the clockport socket is near the rear of the board, if you press too hard on the keyboard, it will rock the board out of its socket. Second, unless you're going to use WB3.1/3.5/3.9 you need to install the Anaiis USB stack. I simply could not figure out how to get the Anaiis software installed so never got the Subway working on the A500 with WB2.1.

I did also get a ROM switcher so that I could use KS3.1 and the supplied Trident software with the clockport & Subway but I haven't got a 3.1 ROM yet either.

Which brings me to A500 hard drive issues. I have an A590 with only WB2.1 and I keep thinking that it's not worth the time and trouble to install two OS's until the ACA520 comes allowing IDE CF option.

So, at this point, barring some sort of modification so the keyboard doesn't keep popping the clockport board out of it's socket, I'm hoping that Jens gets the ACA520 to market soon.

Good info Gizmo. So not such a good fit for A500. Checking out the Anaiis ...

ACA520 -  would be nice. We need to clone Jens S. I think that is the answer to so many of our hardware shortages. There's a joint down the road here, Glaxo Smith Kline? I think they do some cloning.

:)

Yeah, cloning people good, cloning food bad! Ha....
After fiddling around with the clockport in the A500 it occured to me that the clockport should work with no problems in an A2000. So I removed everything from the A500 and checked for fit. Well, seemed like a good idea (other then spending more $$ on a Deneb) but there's too many components in the way to fit the clockport onto the 68K socket. If a guy used about 3 or 4 68K socket risers it would fit great. and would be just as usable as the Deneb.

I'm all about the clock port.

LOL. What you don't have them installed ?!! How do you live a normal life?

Well, after conquering my A1000, I'm bored. So this will be my next thing.

A1000 - naked,  no case
KwikStart I - have no idea what rom it does.
And the clock ports.

More easier, you die...
go on aminet, type anaiis and download the anaiis.lha, extract files on a real amiga...
copy bin/anaiis and bin/usbstart and their icons where you want on a disk, and that's all.

If the clockport base address is not 0x00d80001, you should select "Subway" in the  preferences/system tab of ANAIIS program and put the real clockport base address in Param1.

At this step you can use keyboard, mouse, printer (usbprint), paddle (playhid) and disks (massive)

Don't give up :-)

Perhaps adding usbstart to s:s-s too?

yes, but before you should test the clockport, then if success, put the following into the s:startup-sequence

stack 8000
run >nil: sys:system/usbstart

Does Anaiis support the Deneb?

I fancy having a play with it. :)

uh no, neither Deneb, nor Algor. Only Highway and Subway (and perhaps thylacine if you put thylacine.usbhcd with the good parameters...) lack of docs, time and so

Great, and according to this you could run it with WB1.3:

At minimum, you need:
- Amiga 68000 at 7.14MHz
- a Highway or a Subway card
- some RAM (70 Ko for a mouse and a keyboard)
- should operate from WB1.1 to AmigaOS4.0 (680x0 cpu required).

I guess there is no way to boot from this sort of setup?

I know, I've done it :)
For the moment you need a boot disk (harddisk or floppy) to start ANAIIS.
(remember the TDisk wasn't bootable :) )

I working on a resident (or better a romable) version, but it will come after a better use of the uhc124.
Actually, massstorage is limited to 4kB/s but highwayxp.usbhcd can go up to 20kB/s with the Highway card (measured on a 68000@7.14Mhz) and there is certainly a tip to go up 200kB/s. It's the reason why 4GB thumbs take 5 minutes to mount (around 4MB of data is read by fat95 handler)

Right, floppy left the drive will do some work. I do know! I got a Tecmar card right here. Goddamn stupid sasi.device. It mocks me! I have had it since the start. Still could be fun messing with the ANAIIS suff. Thank you for keeping it so low spec, cli...

I try to make code working with all KS and all 680x0 processors (all Amiga to make short :) ).
Not sure that the mount command exists in KS1.1, so the massive and printer program are outside the stack.

If you have issues, don't hesitate to report them.

I know it's been a LONG time since your post, but I just tried  installing this on my A500 (Rev5 mobo). After going through a CIA chip  (didn't quite have the pins lined up, and a pin then broke when trying  to straighten it out - thank God I had a spare CIA), I couldn't get my  A500 to boot up. I double-triple-etc. checked that the CPU and CIA were  correct and seated properly, but when booting my monitor would remain  blank, I could hear and see my hard-drive powering up and some sort of  I-O, the red power light on my keyboard would light-up, and after about  10 seconds, the green floppy light on the keyboard would light up and  then I would hear a loud HUM (almost like an alarm). I never could  pin-point where the sound was coming from. I first tried disconnecting  the floppy, then installing the CIA without the clockport CIA adapter -  same thing. I finally removed the CPU clockport adapter and plugged it  back in directly in the mobo and it booted without problems (phew).
I think I'll wait until I get my 3.1 ROM upgrade before trying again (and maybe order a couple more spare CIAs first).
