Title: GVP T-REX 4040 A4000 board
Post by: jutrem on December 16, 2002, 05:32:47 PM
Hi

Does anyone know where I can get more info on this board.  I have already visited amiga-hardware.com.  I know it originally came with a 4mb GVP simm installed. Does it need memory installed to boot?

You could try http://www.gvp-m.com/ (http://www.gvp-m.com/), and of course Google. (http://www.google.com/search?q=GVP+T-REX+4040)

HTH :-)

[edit]Just found this: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/a4000accel.html (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/a4000accel.html)[/edit]

Hi gnarly

I had already visited http://www.amiga-hardware.com/a4000accel.html and www.gvp-m.com. Those sites just have a very basic description of the T-Rex. Google just returned 1page of results most of them just link back to www.amiga-hardware.com

Are their any current or previous users of the GVP T-Rex 4040? I'm looking for FAQ's, jumper settings etc.

Thanks

I got one second hand recently, it works quite well.

Unfortunatly I do not have the manual either. If you are still unable to find the manual, I could tell you the jumper settings mine uses, maybe this would help.

thanks Radfoo

There is a lot of jumpers on the T-Rex. If you can post them(from your setup) that would be helpful but I still need the descriptions. I'm still looking myself.

I know the T-REX and T-REX II are not all that similar...  But Greg Donner's UnOfficial GVP-M A4060/A2060 Page (http://www.gregdonner.org/gvp4060/gvp4060.html) might be one place to start looking.  Perhaps some of the T-REX II users, listed on the site, have had experience with the T-REX.  And Greg will most definitely try and help you as much as he can.

I'll Check out the A4060 page. Does anyone know anything about the GVP T-Rex A4040 SCSI and memory  expansion modules?

This page will help you concerning jumper settings:

http://www.starnet.com.au/davem/overclock/4040.html (http://www.starnet.com.au/davem/overclock/4040.html)

I found this page when I was looking for more info on my 4040 card (The overclocking bit looks interesting). Personally, I have found the card itself to be very reliable as GVP hardware usually is. The only issue I have with the card is that it uses nasty custom SIMM's which are guaranteed to blow a hole in anyone's wallet to purchase. I had to pay AU$130.00 to buy a 16MB SIMM (Ouch!) but all in all, I believe it will be worth it memory wise. I will have 2 4MB GVP SIMM's available once I get it if anyone wants to purchase them.

As for the RAM and SCSI modules for the card, from what I've gathered the SCSI module was never made and the RAM module was only made in limited quantities.

I hope this helps you out somewhat as there does seem to be a lack of info on this particular card.
