After all the pissing and moaning in certain other threads, it's time to get serious...
It's a question we all need to consider seriously...
With whom would you prefer to blow the froth of a coldie (or three)?
Bartender! a poll, methinks... :-)
Mike.

I voted for the mad Scotsman, I've had many a good night in Scottish pubs. Make mine a OVD and Pepsi, hold the ice.
-
What's a certain "alternative os"? That could be anything. OSX is an alternative to windows and so is linux
Hmmm... i sense a bit of sucking up going on here.
-
What's a certain "alternative os"?
That option is referring to Piru.
Dave Haynie has done nothing for the Amiga Community for the last 10 years has he?
So the only real choices are Franko or Piru.
-
Franko Rools Okay !
It's all about the art of having a beer. A Rich scottsman is sort of like a middle class Aussie or Yank yeah? It's gotta be good. (soz for the racist stereotypes)
And the tales Franko could tell... I think I got a Bro crush coming on.....
Not that Piru couldn't down a few and tell a tale... Just worried about the shouts: He might say I copied his idea......
-

That's an understatement. In Scotland electricity and basic plumbing are for the higher classed privileged only, but in Australia even the lower class has it readily available
-
Drink a beer with Franko: I have no worries :drink:
Several beers, it would ruin me :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:
Maybe the same thing with Dave? :roflmao:
-
Definitely Franko. I drink beer with that other guy all the time... he's not as interesting as you'd think. But he sure can drink.
-
That other guy? You are either talking about Piru or yourself. Drinking with yourself in the 3rd degree is weird :mickeymouse:
-

Depends on how much beer you already drank, I guess.

How would you know? You don't drink :roflmao:

No, but I used to.

Hmm... not sure if I'm allowed to vote here, but that hasn't stopped me in the past... :)
Ok.. let's see...
Myself: Nah tried that once, nothing but arguments and we both got into a fight with ourselves and I ended up with a black eye... :( (mind you you should have seen the state of the other me)... ;)
Piru: Woah... too scary man... those evil wee piercing eyes peeping out from behind those milk bottle bottoms give me that "I'm being stared at by a psycho feeling", plus I'd probably fall asleep during one if his lectures on copyright issues, think I'll pass on that one..
HazyDave: Any guy who wears a syrup of figs like that in public is fine by me... :D
Not to mention the fact that it weren't for guys like him I would never have had 30 years of sheer joy & pleasure using all me old Commodore machines...
(Plus I might be able to talk him into selling me all his old Commodore goodies if I get him drunk enough... :))
On the other hand as I haven't had a drink now for over 7 years, reckon after one pint I could be talking to Barry and he'd be my new best fwend forever... :D
-
On the other hand as I haven't had a drink now for over 7 years
WTF? You have a lot to answer for dear sir :madashell:
If you're not careful you might turn all serious like Karlos
Don't worry Franko, you will become a moderator in no time ;)
-
The last time I went round to Franko's house for a visit he took me to the local pub. I said I don't drink alcohol, sorry mate. He said "Oh that is quite alright, I will drink enough for the both of us".
That is the kind of friend that Franko is, always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. :D

Talk about sucking up :knuddel:
-
Franko a mod. That's priceless
-
I don't know, I used to think Dave Haynie was a cool guy but this thing with MorphOS kind of stings. I just have so much to debate about computer architecture I won't be immediately negative about him but still...
-
Franko Rules!
-
I voted Franko! :-D And I don't even drink beer!
-
Dave Haynie has done nothing for the Amiga Community for the last 10 years has he?
So the only real choices are Franko or Piru.
Most of my friends, whom I´d spend an evening in the pub with have not done anything for the Amiga Community lately. So I definitely have other criteria than you. And frankly, I don´t think I´d get along with Piru very well.
-
What are you talking about? Piru's a barrel of laughs! :roflmao:
-
13 to 13. Even, and bad luck..!
Looks like Dave has to go out for a Beer with Franko. Get him off the wagon for a night.
Quick flight across the pond, easy.
-
I refuse to vote on this, as I'd drink with all three happily. :roflmao:

Hi,
I would probably choose Karlos to have a beer with, but since he isn't in the poll (smart move) I chose Franko.
@ Dave,
Sorry man you lost, I work with electronic engineers all day long, so when I get away from them I am at peace. At this point in time I think all engineers suck. Lets take all the cases on the Amiga, who ever designed these should spend the rest of his life taking them apart so the techs can get in there and fix them. Plus none of the engineers had the fore sight to build the graphics so that they could easily be changed in the Amiga. I mean come on man, did you think that the AGA would last forever, no upgrade paths. I could go on and on about the design phase of the Amiga but what good would it do. It died because no fore sight for the future.
Now Franko,
This dude is very interesting, he has 2 brain cells and I think both of his cells only talk to themselves. There definitely is no communication between the both of them. Besides that I sort of agree with him on 90% of the stuff he thinks about because my 2 brains cells don't talk to each other either.
Other OS developers, sorry I don't like any of them, they are looking in the wrong direction. What we really need is an Amiga type OS that will work on the PC. PPC is dead. Any developement in this area is doomed to go bye bye in a few years if not earlier. What we want to do is move ahead, not look backwards. We want hardware that works, and an OS that we can manipulate and have fun with. Actually the PC hardware today is great, it is the Windows OS that sucks. Linux is a great OS, why, not because I say so, but because since Ubuntu 6.05 I have not lost any data or had a major crash, but once again since software developers are not supporting it (thanks to threats and payoffs by MicroSoft) software is made by open source publishers or hobby programmers. Why doesn't Turbo Tax support Linux?
Why don't game mfg's support Linux? Why isn't there ports of all the big software packs made available to Linux?
BECAUSE MICROSOFT SAYS SO!!

Hi,

I believe you when you said you have only 2 brain cells. You can't tell the difference between Linux and Amiga os. The 2 have absolutely nothing in common with each other! They're nothing alike! :madashell:
What you really want is AROS :)
I like Linux too. I use Ububtu10.10. It's great! But it's not an Amiga os.
-
I voted Franko :)
...what I'd really like to see is all three of them meet over a few beers :D
-

I have AROS, I have tried it on all three of my big computers, Get no sound, no internet and on one no screen. It just plain rots. Maybe if I go up in the attic and dig out one of my 10 year old computers, it might work.
-
I'd drink with them all tbh.
-
I rarely drink anymore.
Just tonight I participated a house warming party. It was okay for the first couple of hours, after that the alcohol had killed any kind of sensible discussion and reasonable debate.

Gawd Piru... you sound like a robot... :(
You don't "participate" in a party you go to a party to enjoy yourself, have a laugh, do fun things, get pissed and make a right arse of yourself... :)
Not be disappointed when the conversation turns from sensible to incoherent ramblings of drunken folks actually being carefree and enjoying themselves... ;)
Or does than not compute with your logic circuits... :)
-
My guess of each guest over a few beers...
1) Dave Haynie would mellow out (more) and start telling stories of the days at C= and the wonderful hardware that never made it to market. Then he would give his honest opinion of modern computing and how the Amiga might be saved from extinction. I would love this :D. Hopefully, Piru would not be in this group to interrupt.
Dave's beer choice: A full bodied wheat beer from a local microbrewery.
2) Franko would be mellow one moment and annoying the next. The conversation would be mostly incoherent babble the same as when he is sober ;). Lot's of neat stories about how William Wallace and Robert the Bruce kicked the English out of Scotland. Then maybe the conversation would turn to politics and high taxes which would lead to heavier drinking. I probably wouldn't remember the rest.
Franko's beer choice: His favorite Scotish Ale, what else?
3) Piru would probably give me a headache and so I would drink until the headache went away and he didn't sound like such an abrasive guy after all. Then he would get up and leave because my conversation wasn't so intelligent.
Piru's beer choice: Root beer.
-

I take offence to this :bitch:
-
@ matthey
Wow that's cool man you've figured me out right down to a T... :)
Oi... what do mean "annoying the next" you orrible little git you...
I once found a bit of wood in me corn flakes at least I think it was wood, could have been plastic though, or maybe it was a mushroom... :)
Did I ever tell you about the time Willy & Bob duffed up two Englishmen just outside the Jaggy Thistle near Hampden...
Tony Blair... George Bush... Shirley Temple... Council Tax... Income Tax....
Erm... what was we saying again... can't (hic) rememshber now... you're pissed... nah. you're phished... I loves you man... (hic)... :D
@ Kesa
Ha... Ha...
-
End of the session would be something like this? :
"Yer me best mayte, ya know that . hic.
You and me agin the world maytee. Just you and me.
'coz yer me mayte ryte. me mayte.
You and me agin".....BBBAAAARRRRRRFFFFF all over the coffee table.
Hem, time to leave now..
-
Piru's beer choice: Root beer.
 That is my fave beer too!
The check out girls at Wal-Mart would always say "My, that's a lot of root beer there." And I would say "I wanted 20 bottles but you only had 12, now I will hafta come back again next week."
Sadly Root Beer is toooo powerful for me and I had to stop drinking it for medical reasons.

id thought piru drink cooking sherry

Make that a green bud and not a bud and we're game!
And for the note, I vote Franko because he's got multiple personalities, thus it's like drinking with a crowd, while at the same time not.
-

You have obviously never been to Oregon then, mate!
We like it dark, hoppy, room temperature, and about 8% :afro:
-
Make that a green bud...
this also means something entirely different in Oregon...

In my experience when it comes to Finns alcohol is mandatory if a discussion beyond 2-word responses is what one is after :D.
-
I would quite like a drink with any or all of you guys!
-
this also means something entirely different in Oregon...
I think I'm starting to like the sound of Oregon... ;)

Oh what? I must know!!!! :)

I'm out of touch with these things myself but I vaguely recall that this is like that first wall of exhaustion when running and you just have to keep pounding away until you catch your "second wind". Likewise, you just have to drink your way through the wall after which point the conversation won't be any more sensible, but you'll care a hell of a lot less
-
I'd drink beer with Dave, for sure.
Neither Franko nor Piru have displayed any knowledge or interest regarding beer, but I recall Dave being a home brewer and hence having a genuine interest in beer.
As for American beer, there's really a lot of great american beers to try out for those interested, just last night I had a Hop Juice (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/left-coast-hop-juice/35243/) from Left Coast, a Ten FIDY (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/oskar-blues-ten-fidy/68107/) from Oskar Blues and lastly a Weizen Bam (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/jolly-pumpkin-weizen-bam/89680/) from Jolly Pumpkin. Craft beer FTW! :)

That was my vote too, a drink with Dave... :)
But it's not fair to say I don't have any knowledge of beer, It was one of me favourite things in life until I had to give it up many years ago for medical reasons... :(
My favourites were "Tartan Special" & "McEwans Export" and the odd "Southern Comfort" or two. Whisky I only like straight from the barrel (20 year old and 180 proof) a thimble full takes you to places you've never been before (any more than that and your dead)... :)
Oddly enough I don't actually miss it anymore as me meds seems to have a similar effect as booze so on a night out I just have a glass of cola and take an extra one of me tablets and it's party time... :)
-
OK, I figured that you might have a thing for beer as well, would totally make sense :)
Too bad you cannot enjoy beers anymore, there's so much going on right now :(
-
Room temperature in Oregon isn't that like 9 Deg c ?
lately :( Spring is taking its sweet ass time.
-
Oh what? I must know!!!! :)
that would be Cannabis, there, good sir.
An hour north of Humboldt, six hours south of BC, and plenty of "artisan" producers locally
-
What I want to know is who would you rather smoke crack with?! ;)
-
My local faves:
http://www.ninkasibrewing.com/ <- Tricerahops IPA. mmmmmmmm. :afro:
http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/ <- the seasonal Jubelale or Obsidian Stout...
http://www.rogue.com/ <- hazelnut brown nectar, or their 12% Imperials...
http://www.mcmenamins.com/ <- oatmeal stout and terminator stout.

@TheBilgeRat
Heh, my man - I'll let you know if I'm nearby at some pint... point! :D
Got some beer loving friends hanging around in north bay area, intend to take the trip along the coast line some time :)

No problem!

I choose Piru. But only if you can prove he has emotions :)

Can you imagine sitting down with Dave and Franko with a big spliff?!
Before you know it you are planning to buy the rights of Amiga Inc and Commodore and relaunching with the money raised from selling most of your organs.
You think that is bad enough.....swap spliff for shrooms and we are all screwed!
-

Unless they both laugh themselves to unconsciousness

Yeah, or try and climb walls using only their lips!
